F1 To Expand.
« on: October 05, 2013, 03:35:20 AM »

Does not work on a Mac, at all.

A bit irritating, as it limits the amount of data I can access.

Just tried it out on my Macbook. It has F1 and F2 set to adjust the brightness of the display; to get the actual F1 functionality out of the key I have to press the fn key and F1 together, then it works. Maybe something similar is going on for you?

Note that you can also rebind the key to something else in Settings, under General.

Had a go, both with the cmd, alt and ctrl keys - didn't work. The only thing that happened was to opening of a variety of unwanted windows, such system "About this Mac"... Whilst that is indeed more information, it's not of the sort I'm after!  ;D

Remapping is fine, but it would be nice (for other mac users out there) if the default key was changed.

There's a possibility that it's specific to your particular setup, I think. Would be interesting to hear if this (F1 or fn-F1) works for other Mac users or not - I mean, I know it does for me.

More of a suggestion but I'd just get rid of F1 to expand altogether and instead display the full information all of the time (and above the monitor instead of over). Personally, everytime I hover the cursor over the desired monitor I always want the full information anyway.

Why not simply have a 'bar' or something along the bottom where when you move the mouse over/across it expands the tooltip?  Like:

+-------------------+
|Mouseover Tooltip
+-------------------+
|Expandy bar
+-------------------+

This is not the place for suggestions, see sticky. Feel free to open a thread in the right subforum.

My F1 works as normal, although I have changed it to use the function keys as standard keys (System Preferences -> Keyboard).

Just some more confirmation, it works for me using Fn-F1 as well as setting my function keys to act as function keys in my settings.
