AI failing when enemy retreats
« on: May 05, 2011, 05:39:27 AM »

This already happened three times to me (not allowing me to get 100%) , however, I'm not completely sure how to produce it.

What happens is that in Hornet's Nest, when (1~4) enemy is retreating, my friendly AI seems to fail to understand commands. They wouldn't capture nodes, charge opponents ships nor simply move to ordered destination. They'll go AWAY from it.
This seems to apply to fighters. Frigates/Destroyers sometimes get the same behaviour, not always.

Didn't get many good pics. My fighters were at the Command Relay, moving away from the ordered spots.

The friendly fighter AI will retreat on its own I found, have not had this with non-fighter ships though.

Hmm. Do you mean frigates? I don't see any fighters in the screenshots.

The AI can get kind of confused when it's trying to dodge too many asteroids - it basically won't start obeying orders until it feels safe. This would affect frigates a lot more - since they feel threatened by smaller asteroids. Any fighter wings in that group would be affected too, since they are automatically set to escort the largest ship in the group (in this case, one of the confused frigates).

Is it possible that might be what's happening?

I don't think enemy ships retreating could cause this kind of behavior, at least, I would be really, really surprised if it somehow did.

There are some wasps in the lower right hand corner of the screen

They are at bottom right, group 3, mix of Interceptors and Fighters. At the start they were at Command Relay. At that time about 3 enemy ships were retreating.

The AI can get kind of confused when it's trying to dodge too many asteroids - it basically won't start obeying orders until it feels safe. Can't say for sure what happened to my frigates, however my group 3 were just fighters, and there are no asteroids on the right map, atleast the path between my comm node and enemy nav node.
