Hyperspace

I don't think it's been said yet, but I love the hyperspace background.

The underwater distortion effect, the veins of bubbles, and the cherenkov blue glow all combine to give a magnificently otherworldly feeling.

Hmm, personally I think it could use a change with something that looks less like actual space.

Mostly I'm disappointed by the lack of evil space monsters that feed on passing ships.

I'm kidding, but it would be funny for at least a while

Indeed! I'm sure there are space dragons out there, and tentacles appearing out of suddenly opening black holes, a space kraken.

My only gripe with Hyperspace is the nebulae... I don't really think they belong there.

What about some sort of "Compressed Space" substitute that does the same thing, just looks more like hyperspace.

Glowie energy bubbles!

Totally agreed, the environmental conditions should be different in, well, a different environment. Both nebulae and asteroids should be replaced with something more fitting.

In principle the argument is that is difficult to balance combat for different conditions, but I don't think that really applies here. The only real connection between those objects and balancing is the new nav buoy bonus, and that could easily be replaced.

oh man when i first engaged in combat in hyperspace with a band of pirates who, lets face it were doomed from the outset, i stopped a moment while i was murdering them and just admired the background, its so.... awesome. i can't really think of a better word to describe it other than, spacey.

When you can't go on, just accept your doom. It comes to all, it is inevitable.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.

Actually, depending on how you "look" at space, Hyperspace looks alot like real space.

Perhaps you simply cannot "see" anything in hyperspace apart from wormholes or stars. so instead youre looking through the ships electronic eyes. seeing the patterns of radiation and plasma as they flow and clash.

Totally agreed, the environmental conditions should be different in, well, a different environment. Both nebulae and asteroids should be replaced with something more fitting.

Ideas i had in a few seconds;
Temporary wormholes across the map.
Plasma bubbles that appear, expand in a circle then contract and disappear, dealing shieldable damage to ships within.
EM Radiation that may cause flux, but do make the ships radar detection much much shorter.

This is sounding pretty cool.
