Switching linked/alternating fire in battle
« on: September 19, 2013, 09:47:59 AM »

There should be a way to switch between linked and alternating fire in battle.  I've been using that one ship that can teleport with 4 antimatter blasters.  I like to have them linked so I don't have to mash the button when I want to fire them all, but when there are fighters I want to kill I have to waste all 4 shots against a single fighter and wait a long time before I can shoot again.

well, "mashing" just for 4 blasters. not exactly a huge problem imo.
i mean, reading your post, it seems like just putting them on alternating and clicking more often is just more flexible and useful

Or you could put them on alternating and use autofire when you want all four to fire at once?

I like this idea.  A few times, I forget to toggle linked/alternating after I refit my ship, get in a fight, discover that my big rapid-fire (or occasionally, beam) guns are alternating.  Cue rage when I need to restart the game.

Excellent idea. MechWarrior pulled it off 20 years ago :) . Key binding would be extremely easy, Shift+# just like the autofire toggle. Autofire and rapid clicks are not useful for high speed maneuvers or when you're hiding with phase/teleport.

or you could do like me and do a simulated testrun after refitting to ensure you did everything right.

That presumes I remember to simulate.  Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.  Or remember to simulate after I made hasty last-minute changes after I simulate earlier.

Alt is currently free (I know this because I have alt bound to my autofire toggle, I find it easier to hit than ctrl)

alt+number could swap between linked and alternating just fine (and then I will rebind it to ctrl, but that's beside the by)
