CR/supply usage spreadsheet [0.65a] (v1.05 2014-10-25)
« on: September 18, 2013, 01:00:22 AM »

2014.10.25: Updated to v1.05 for Starsector 0.65a!

With all the threads about this, I figured some hard numbers would be useful. So I made a spreadsheet!
Have you ever wondered how much the Lesser Arctic Enforcer costs to deploy compared to the Common Eurasian Tempest? Wonder no more! How much are those "all in" deployments really costing you? Find out with this handy nifty quartermaster's dream!

Download (.xlsx)
Public domain/CC0; feel free to copy and modify as you need

May have some issues (I'm not entirely sure the fighter per-battle costs are correct, for instance). If you see any errors, please report them.
Other comments and suggestions are welcome too  :)

Some fast facts I've gleaned from it:
  • As far as fighters go, Thunder and Gladius are the best deals. Talon and Longbow are cheap, but weak. Mining Pods are scams, stay away from them..
  • Not counting CR loss in combat, all frigates will fully recover their deployment in 64 hours, tops - except for Hyperion, which takes 5 days. All the low-tech, midline and phase frigates take no more than 48 hours.
  • Destroyers generally take 2-3 days for CR recovery, except for Medusa (4 days). Cruisers range from 2 days (Venture) to 5 days (Aurora).
  • All combat capitals fully recover CR in 5 days, except Onslaught which takes 4
  • Low-tech ships are cheap to field, of course, but midlines are almost as good or better
  • As ships get bigger, their deployment cost/DP increases
  • Hyperion costs more to deploy than any destroyer except Medusa
  • Medusa costs more to deploy than Falcon or Venture

Lasher fleets were pretty borderline OP before 0.6 With the ability to take on ships much larger than them and could be modified if so willed to have 360* shielding.

Now my lasher fleet is pretty much the bread and butter of good profitable combat.

I still keep a pair of hyperions for intercept duties, nothing beats them. (And intercept lashers cannot catch other lashers in a retreat scenario)

Nice work! I did the numbers myself, and got the same as you (including fighters). :]

Yeh... Finding out the supply costs ruined my hopes of using Wasps in my fleet. 54 supplies per deployment. -_- Using Thunders as part of my main battle fleet though, and they're pretty damn good. Got a group of Mining Pods too if the battle looks like it'll be tough.

Oh, this is useful, thanks Histidine! One improvement suggestion: If you'd color every other row grey it would be easier to read. If you use "format as table" to do that, that also comes with sorting buttons for every column.

The game was completed 8 years ago and we get a free expansion every year.

Arranging holidays in an embrace with the Starsector is priceless.

Ah, excellent idea/tip. I've done that, thanks :)

I've also added an idle cost/day column for convenience.

Holy hell, fighters are crazy expensive for what they do.  We need some more midline Frigates.

  • Wasp wing costs more to field than an Apogee (!!!)
  • It costs more to field a Paragon than to buy five (unarmed) Lashers

What.

This thread, is full of hilarity, and face palms.  I'm looking at you wasps and paragon.

Also this just reconfirms my theory from awhile back, Thunders fix everything :D

When you can't go on, just accept your doom. It comes to all, it is inevitable.

Also I totally had the name BEFORE the cruiser.

We have those! what makes my captain cry in his quarters is the lack of a fast Carrier! Since the Gemini got nerfed down to a 4.0 burn speed id rather just buy another lasher than think about a fighter.

the only fighters i really thought were anything more than a "temporary fleet addition" were Xyphos, but now they have a slow burn speed of 6.0.

ah you know, aside from being twice the deployment cost of a lasher. and requiring a carrier (see; slow) to remain effective in longer engagements. 9,600 for a Thunder wing. Not sure on a lashers cost. 4500. (unarmed though)

My memory must be failing me. Which high tech ship is a carrier, apart from the cap ships?

A previous poster commented the Venture. But thats not high tech so apologies for that.

If we do see a sub-cap carrier, i hope its fast.
