Scratch Building A Plastic Hound
« on: August 11, 2013, 04:56:16 AM »

Heya guys,

I've been pretty bored with starsector at the moment so i thought i'd give something different a try, scratchbuilding a plastic model of a Hound frigate. I'll also be painting it after the building bit is finished. Here's the first hour or two of work (not that this includes research time). I've got a very basic hull shape and two skeletal engines.

Not much to comment at the moment, But i imagine its going to be very good looking in the end, getting all the dimensions right must have been a pain, since they are documented nowhere but the size of the ship sprite, the details are also going to be quite the pain to get right. but yeah, i wish you luck there, and i'm looking forward to seeing further work on it!

Yeah, I'm mostly going by eye for the dimensions and i could only find 2-3 pictures of the Hound in something other than top-down 2D. Details will be slightly easier I think, less thinking involved  ;D .

good luck, i dont think you'll have any real problem if you're really into modeling.
curious to see the end result.

(and here's a suggestion for HUGE *** and giggle factor : make it so where medium hardpoint is, you can swap whatever you put there and build many different gun that can be putted there so that your hound model can swap its gun. that'd be hilarious)

@phyrex I could super glue some magnets underneath the hull and on the guns so they are interchangeable, but that would require me building and painting more than one gun  ;)

@acidzombie yeah thats actually the picture i got the idea off of, thanks though  ;D

@sproginator  You'd need someone to design a model first wouldn't you?

Progress is being made, the engine structure is almost complete, and when it is, I can start detailing and battle damaging. Too lazy to get the camera at the moment though, I'll get update pictures tomorrow.

I am creating 3d models for 3d printing, I could do this for you, but of course it won´t be free.

Edit: And I can give you reference to 3d printers with worldwide shipping my costumers are using.

It´s not exactly precise but in combination with top view it would be enough to reconstruct 3d model... ofc it would need some extra thinking and own design.

This one is far too round and I really don´t think it correspondent with original intention of onslaught design. Not saying it is bad, just had stare on it for a while until I realized it is onslaught. Read David´s blog about designing onslaught btw (references, etc.)
