ESD (Electrostatic Death) White Out
« on: June 28, 2013, 03:16:05 PM »

ESD is the destruction of computer parts by accidental shocks from static electricity build up.
If it were possible to mod the blinding flash of ships being destroyed in Starsector, one could totally turn the white out into a fuzz out as hardware is bombarded with radiation from the recently slain ship.
Genius idea.

Fund this now.

Maybe have it show as some random scrambling of your screen/your ship scanners not picking up every ship in their range/etc.
(In addition to what was already suggested)

This would be extremely cool. A random small number of nebula clouds could have this effect as well. Perhaps only in certain areas on the map, like if you battle near the sun.

Perhaps the glitching out could also be extended to overloads? To add to the idea that overloads are generally a bad thing, your HUD will go absolutely crazy to boot with the HUD warping, font being replaced with random symbols, etc.

Something to represent that all of this combat actually happens at immense distances with only sensor information and actual visual contact rarely if ever achieved

he's talking about adding these effects when youre too close to a blowing up ship, at distances which would probably make more sense for those effects
