Well, there have been several blog posts since the notes were last updated. Some things lend themselves better to being talked about in that format, especially if they're still being worked on. Patch notes bulleted lists work better for things when they are mostly finished.

Pretty sure the game isn't going to be complete until sometime in 2014.

You all may as well just accept it and stop wasting your breathe on threads like this. Games still a long ways out but it'll be done when its done.

You may consider doing blog posts more often.  It doesn't have to have a huge amount of content, really.  Just little things.  The feature you're working on/fighting with.  The weird bugs you run into.  The methods and approaches you're using that you think are neat.  Just talk about your game.  I do development as well.  No matter what it is, you have a passion for what you make.  Let it come through!

Do a little weekly blog post.  Just chatter, talk about ***.  It doesn't have to be special.  It can even be "I doubt this is applicable to Starsector, but look what I did!"  Constant communication will keep people from getting restless, and a weekly blog post won't take but 30 minutes to an hour out of your week.

I don't see why everyone's all "Say moar stuffs, Alex!" all the time. As it is, he communicates with the community far more than other developers I've seen. And even if 0.6 isn't out, there's still a very playable version of the game there to play, with countless equally playable mods to choose from. And hell, if even all that isn't enough, it's not like it's the only game out there.

In short: Give the man a break and it'll get done when it's done.

Imagine no one would care when the next release will be, what would that say about game and community? The eagerness for news is Alex' own fault for releasing such delicious updates :) The impatience is futile and unbecoming, though.

IMO if Alex can be on the forums answering questions every single day but refuse to show us even a single patch note for going on two months he's not spending his time how he should be.
#annoyedcustomer
IMO how Alex spends his time is his prerogative, not yours.
#thisisnttwitter
@Austupaio.  This.  I agree.

@Pentakill
  First of all, have you even bothered to read through most of the forums?  Alex responding and answering questions on the forums has lead to MORE THINGS IN OUR GAME (e.g. more modding capabilites; he has added things into the game that we have requested, etc).  Secondly, you're a 'customer' of an Alpha game.  You paid for ALPHA.  You did not pay for a fully released game.  He could theoretically never release the game and you couldn't do anything about it (He won't do that though, I have full faith in him as a dev).   Thirdly, I rather like him responding to the community, it's nice to have a dev that actually cares (you basically said his 4K post count means nothing when you said he isn't spending his time properly.  Should I berate you for 'not spending your time properly' because I disagree with you posting about how something isn't released on your schedule?  Maybe I should tell you to 'stop wasting your time and get a job'?  See how stupid this is?  The patch notes will be released when they (and hopefully the patch too) are ready, NOT before.  Do you know what happens when we release things early that shouldn't be?  Mass Effect 3.

Anyways, on a side note, first post on this forums.  Hi community, I love you guys.  @ Alex, Thank you so much for your hard work.  I spent nearly 50K hours on Escape Velocity: Nova as well as the two before it (override and classic) modding and playing, and this is so reminiscent of it that I hope to pour just as much into this game as well.

Edit: Another thing I wanted to say; LOVE the gravity effect when you are near planets; too cool!

Before this thread gets locked and everyone is given infractions for having even given this thread a funny look as is often the case on threads with massive potential for flamewars, I have to ask, how do you think he should be spending his time, exactly?

Should he be like a Starbound dev and making updates for you practically every single day?
Curious to know..

Personally, I think of the bug reports section as the patch notes section. A bug is pointed out, Alex comments on it, probably irons it out by the time he's made his first reply. "Job's a good'un, boss." If not, within a couple more posts, the bug is probably fixed and there. Game patched up just that little bit more. Guess it depends on people's perception of "Patch Notes". Do you think of Patch Notes as fixing that annoying leak in the roof of your house? Or do you think of Patch Notes as getting an entirely new non-leaky roof?

I do particularly like their dev blog, to be honest.  Each of those updates took no longer than an hour.  That does add up, of course, but doing that same thing once a week?  That's not going to seriously eat into his time.  Each of those Starbound updates are small, lightweight, and talking about the issues they're facing, and the things they enjoyed.  It's an interesting way to vent while making your community feel involved.

The #1 thing that he has to do is not promise anything in them, of course.  Just talk about...anything, really.  Think of it like a heartbeat for servers.  If I get a heartbeat every minute, I'm gonna know the server's up.  If I  haven't gotten a heartbeat for nearly a day now, it's hard not to assume that the server's down.

A heartbeat is simply a "I'm here, I'm awake". Pretty sure that Alex posts at least once a day in the forums, so there's your heartbeat.
And if you want to be involved: Check the "Blog Posts" forum and check the most recent thread by Alex. If you have any great ideas about the mechanic (in this case: encounters) just throw them in there. And if you have any other ideas, there's also a "Suggestions" forum.

Honestly, I like the current way a lot more, than Alex talking about how productive/unproductive he was today.

I went and purchased Starfarer/Starsector last year, and have to admit after playing it for around a dozen hours - it was interesting but too incomplete to hold my attention.

Given the update schedule, and the emphasis on patching in modding features above the story/campaign, I probably won't invest any time into it or the community following it until it is completely done.

I'd like to get involved in the game, it just isn't there yet.  When I originally played it it amounted to a space combat sim in a single sector.  It looks like Alex has a lot more planned for it, including a SP campaign..  he just isn't anywhere near there yet.

So while there remain a lot of hopeful people out there, I expect many of them have just shelved their expectations for the game in the meantime, and who aren't paying it any attention for obvious reasons.  That may be good for Alex (less pressure), but bad for the game overall (less buzz and community surrounding it).

Anyhow, that's my .02, I remain hopeful for the eventual completion of the game.

Alex would be dumb if he abadon this game and stop dev this game, there is SO much more money potential in this game so i think this not gonna happen and im pretty sure if no big accident happen Alex will finish the game :-)
