Xbox and PS3 capture software

Hey guys, a friend of mine wants to know what kind of software and hardware is needed. And since I have no idea, I figured I'll ask here.

Do you use any? Etc

I don't know for sure (and there are many better places to ask this stuff), but I'm pretty sure that you need special hardware to get this stuff recorded. And this hardware will need the manufacturer's software.

Yeah, you'll need a capture card, but i've heard that set-top boxes, such as the T-box for Foxtel in australia can also capture gameplay footage.
