Simple guidelines for ship making.
« on: January 20, 2012, 09:11:02 AM »

Hi

I am new to starfarer, sort of, and I want to start adding some ships and missions and I will hopefully be quite an active modding member if I start to get good at it.

Now;
Could somebody give me some basic guidelines on how to mod some ships of mine into the game?
I have some basic scripting knowledge of java and just about every other scripting language xD so i don't need anyone to tell me what to write or anything, just where to put certain files, what to copy etc, some basic guidelines please?

What I am mainly looking for is:
1)What files to copy and edit for making ships.
2)Where to put them when I am done
3)some other information/tips you could give me :)

Plus, does anybody know how to make my sprites anti aliased?
What I mean is, in the /graphics/ships folder all of the ships are pixeled and are really small but they look smooth instead of roughly drawn without anti aliasing. So when I designed my ship I took off anti aliasing so that the pixels would be more accurate, but do you guys design your ships with AA on or do you do it pixel by pixel with AA off?

I am using Paint.NET by the way, but I also have Photoshop if anybody recommends I use that instead.

Thanks :)

Welp, I'm no expert by any means, but I like to mess around with modding a little bit.

Here are a few useful links that may provide useful information, I'll leave it to the experts to post more useful unique help at some point in the future.  :)

I have found that RedBull's editor is quite excellent, and it takes a lot of the hard work out of the process.  :)
