ship size limit
« on: December 25, 2012, 01:05:55 PM »

i don't know if this belongs to modding because it isnt really a modding problem or whatever.

so i like big ships. especially fighting big ships. but theres one thing... all the big ships in vannilla or in almost any mod aren't really that big (compared to an ounslaught). this makes me wonder. how large ships does the game support? is it like 10 ounslaughts big or just 2 or whatever and if it is really large, then why aren't modders making huge ass flagships? (by huge ass i really mean huge so almost max). anyway i am no modder myself so can't really find an awnser by testing. a comparision with the ounslaught in block form and the max ship size would be helpfull, but that is up to you.

Basically, really, really big ships will result in significantly slower gameplay.  There's a mod that tried to get around these issues by making everything smaller- see here.  Dunno whether we'll ever see a release, though.

I remember the battlestar galactica mod had some pretty big ships that didn't have framerate issues (for me at least). I don't know about 10 onslaughts but they were much bigger than vanilla if I remember right. I don't have it now so you will have to check it out yourself if you are interested.

No guns? That's hardly useful, is it? :P

Obviously it attacks by swallowing enemy ships whole. ;)

no weapon is needed, they run. :P

but this size is actually impractical...weapon's range is one of the biggest problem
and as said above, it does make the game slower

Not as big as Max's but it's certainly up there, no lag at all, but that might be because its just one ship. ;D

i usually have my shield a little smaller than the collision radius, so they wont go inside.

its was 2500 px per side here, but now its 3000 px per side

It allows probably an even higher sized ships, the problem comes from various places, the screen view, weapons range not taking account the "extra" ship hull when it fires, so extremely long ranged custom weapons are needed for it, when it spawns with more ships, they end up inside the hull and do ramming damage to the bigger ship, the map size that needs to be changed... so while its nice, needs to be in NPC control

just fly this ship from south to north then the battle is win...
