The weekly teaser
« on: December 08, 2012, 03:14:34 AM »

Idea: Alex, once a week, posts a picture of on-going development. No coment, no description, no title, just a picture.

It can be a screenshot of the new modding code, perhaps the painting of new sprites, or playtesting a new feature. Maybe some website code, a list of game-related emails or anything random realy.

And when posted let everyone else speculate of what it might be... This is probably a silly idea but hey, need dat Starfarer fix! ::)

I like that. Every Friday or something.

Actually, this might help cure some of the unrest, while taking next to no effort. Unless someone can come up with some objections, I think that it's a good idea. But perhaps this belongs in Suggestions?

There's the constant pestering about an update at the end of a release cycle.

I'm going to say i dislike this idea even though i really really like it. I'd rather alex focused on making the game rather than making promotional material for the game.

That said i do want to see patch notes updated more!

No promotion, just a arbitrary teaser. That would only take a minute to make and post.

The problem with this, depending on what exactly he is doing, there may not be anything worth showing.

Its not every week he will have a new ship or new system completely coded and ready to show off every week. He doesn't have the resources that, say, Riot Games does. It also looks a lot like a fair bit of the coding going on is back-end stuff (for modders). This particularly doesn't generate anything really screenshot worthy for the average player.

In the end, while it is POSSIBLE to do, its not entirely realistic.

Maybe go monthly then? I think that gives Alex a bit more time and perhaps more ideas to show off.

Just a minus, if this is implemented, then Alex has/gets to hear about everyone's opinion on what he has done for that week. IMO having someone say that how you spent your week is was a bad idea isn't exactly much of an incentive to work out of the box. I feel like Alex could end up trying to please everyone or take everyone's ideas into consideration. He'd have to worry at every decision whether or not we will like what he does rather than what he thinks will be best for the game. IDK. Just some theorizing.

Yeah it seriously gets annoying when we go months without hearing nothing. I am perfectly fine with waiting a few months for an update, but waiting without any news or at least a small screenshot to hold me over is just a chore.
