Modified a new save game to be level 60 and gave it all the points. i just wanted to see what you could do at maximum level with absolutely everything unlocked. turns out troll with a tempest very efficiently

Totally doable. Just yesterday, level 30ish, and i nuked the Haegemony Defense fleet with a Tempest, an Omen and a Hyperion.

That ain't right. To destroy entire HDF with just 3 frigates doesn't seem right to me. Alex should do something about that...
It's like: Look i have 3 dirt bikes and i destroy entire tank division... Ain't right!

I know. But i really can't say it was easy, even with super-tuned Tri ships. If the AI was not so keen on doing random mistakes it would have been a piece of cake since i usually reloaded when that happened.

And yes, the Hyperion is quite OP. I'm eagerly expecting the game to get the persistent universe/campaign down so the Hyperion can really be the rare ship it's supposed to be and not just 3 sold Buffalo's away.

I love tempests, it's too bad they were replaced as 'hardest ship to catch' by the hyperion :/

I've always been kind of meh on the Hyperion, I still think a properly equipped Tempest is just plain better . Maybe I'm crap at outfitting them!

Shush. None of those frigates can stop two fighter wings, a cruiser and a capital at the same time with a well-placed EMP blast like the Omen can.

Where would one find their player Experience to modify if they were to try this out? Its not for me its for a friend i promise....

it took me bloody ages to find it but if you want to try it don't ruin your main save, go to a blank save, put in the skills you get at the beginning it makes it easier to find, for example put points into leadership then go to the starfarer folder, saves, your save, campaign.xml. open that up and press Ctrl F. search for whatever aptitude you put points into IE leadership then just mash the search button until you find one that has points assigned to it, the rest will be 0.0  it should be near the bottom when you finally find it. then just throw points at whatever you want, its easiest to give yourself 200 skill points and 30 aptitude points and then close and save then launch your game and hey presto your still level 1 ( unless you change that too) and you have enough points for everything.

thanks for the display doom101. made me want to play back again.
took me a moment but with minimal know-how and some ingenuity, i was able to find the parameters by myself and change them.

i roll on max level with an eagle cruiser (5 taclaser, 3 pulse laser, 2 mauler, 1 hyperkinetic, 2 sabot missile)
im having so much fun

Most of that speed probably comes from stacking the new speed mod with augmented engines - that can make anything fast.

yes the tempest in the video does have both augged engines and an unstable injector
 
and it also gets a huge boost from one of the abilties ( i forget which) that adds +25 extra speed to the no flu bonus AND the one that lets you keep that bonus up to your 25% flux mark.
