Just made a few "low tech/mining" variants of some ships:
Let's start with an Hammerhead: I can see this ship being the backbone of the defense fleet of a small and independent mining colony, thus being able to field only outdated, cheap or non-military equipment like the Arbalest, mining lasers and annihilators. It's not THAT bad, after all.
Talking about a mining colony, there must be a transport ship to carry people and cargo around. That role is fulfilled by a Valkyrie-class destroyer, which follows the same rule as the Hammerhead: cheap, low tech equipment. Barely stands a chance against anything heavier than a Talon wing, but does its job.
Cheap and low-tech doesn't always mean weak. Never ever underestimate a bunch of miners willing to protect the fruits of their hard work with their lives. All it takes is a light, fast frigate like the Vigilance, some suicidal crewmen, an even more suicidal captain and a mining blaster to create a
death trap powerful strike ship, able to cripple destroyers and unwary cruisers.
I just LOVE midline ships, they're so flexible
Ps: it would be really nice to be able to have an in-game description for each variant and not only a description for the single hulls.
