I am wordless *running Starfarer at huge res's*
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:04:29 AM »

So today, my father took delivery of a brand new awesome, sleek and sexy 15" Retina Display MacBook Pro.

It's very powerful. I was running Starfarer on a HD4000 alone and doing just fine.

But what I have to say....

Is I am COMPLETELY wordless to describe the beauty of playing at 2880*1800.

I'm not completely new to res's like that, as I do have a 2560x1440 monitor but the screen is so small, the PPI so large that the density of each centimetre is completely stunning. It's completely perfect and looks so... damn... nice...
Everything looks so crisp and....

PLAY THIS GAME AT HIGH RES! IT'S INSANE

I'm more surprised that the HD4000 can handle those resolutions without turning into a slideshow for you. What kind of FPS are you getting?

60, dips into 30 at the very least.

Kind've a weird thing right now, the GT650M is seeing the same FPS

Does Starfarer actually run at higher than 1920x1080? I don't see an option for it, so maybe it's just the pixel density that's done it for you.

I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it only shows resolutions that your monitor supports. All the monitors I have access to support the same resolutions, so I can't test to be sure.

Pretty sure the game supports basic resolutions and also oddball resolutions through recognition of the monitors native res, since I personally run the game at 1152p :P

I haven't tried to yet, but I do have my big rig plugged into an HD TV through HDMI so I figure it would look pretty good. Top that OP!  ;D

And then build yourself a commander's cockpit/chair with throttles and and switches and knobs and buttons and stuff.

Then, take it to outer-space, sacrifice nothing for the most immersive experience possible!

I think for the ultimate SF experience you would need a big-ass touch screen table inside a narrow metallic room cramped with tech equipment.  That is after all what they use on the spaceships:

That's what they use for the tactical screen of course, but do we have any artwork of someone personally piloting a ship?

This is all info we have:

Quote
None of the ships feature bridges like those found in Star Trek. Ship tech level is actually the determining factor, and the "how" varies considerably. After all, some of the ships flying together now were designed during different Epochs of the Domain, hundreds, sometimes thousands of years apart. A Mastery Epoch ship bridge has more the feel of a World War I submarine, cramped and utilitarian, even claustrophobic. Crew comforts obviously improved with subsequent Epochs, but it was never a huge design priority. Remember, only one of the ships currently in the game has an exploratory role, the Apogee-class. In Star Trek, Starfleet ships are mostly exploration ships, not warships (with the exceptions of ships like the Defiant-class).

And something about neural interfaces on high tech ships that I can't find.

Thus, we all must obtain Virtual Boys, and rig them to work with Starfarer.
