phase sensors.
« on: September 01, 2012, 05:04:32 AM »

I understand that according to lore: phase is "old news" and that all ships have phase detection systems. This i think breaks alot of the "stealth" of the Phase ships which, even if Phase is a defence, are slightly underpowered for their price.
My suggestion is for phase sensors to update every 5(or whatever is balanced) seconds, as if it is very slow cycling radar system. because it would allow for phase ships to actually sneak up on the enemy if they are fighting other ships.

The reason Phase ships are visible is because phase sensors are standard on every ship.

I said that. But lets say they act like radar but with alot longer between its pulses so the position is only known every time it pulses.

Yes exactly!
I will figure out some lore reason later

If phase cloaking is really such old hat, why is anyone building them any more? Your suggestion makes sense, because at the very least, phase detection should be an effort. Perhaps turning on phase sensors should generate soft flux, but turn phase ships visible, as they are now. I don't think that a sweeping radar is entirely appropriate for this, but certainly, phase cloaks should be more helpful, at the very least. This doesn't break lore, since phase detection -is- standard on all ships, but it would even the odds.

There will be a significant buff of phase ships in the next update. It comes in the form of phasing building up hard flux while decreasing soft flux, so you can decrease your overall flux level while phased.

Alex has describes his reasoning for not adding mechanics for aggravated detection in his blog post and stands firm with it. There have been several similar suggestion to no avail.

Well, the "cloaking" is misleading. It's more a defensive mechanism: instant invulnerability.

Just one tidbit: the "cloaking" part may become less misleading - depending on just how things shake out in the campaign. Not a certainty, mind you, but something I'm going to look at.

It is still not to significant of a buff. They are simply not worth their price (which should be around the hyperions final price)
Cloaking is a rare thing and sensing it should be at least a difficult task.

I like the new system. It's the loadout for the doom-class that really kills it.

Why not Phase Shielding?  Also phase cloakign is rather useless, I'd much rather a shield and a skimmer/teleporter.

Even with that, quote unquote, buff they are not worth the premium you pay for them. My suggestion would allow them to be true strike ships.

Still talking about that? Alex just said he will look into adding some kind of cloak mechanic. That's great! Let's just see what will come of it.
