Does the convert button do anything yet?
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:19:29 PM »

I've poked around, searched the forums and examined the files for the Buffalo and Tarsus, but I can't seem to find out whether the Convert button just sits there all gray and unloved, or whether I just don't know how to get it to work.

Does anyone know either way please?

It has never done anything. Probably just placeholder. Maybe it will be usable later on, though?

Thanks for the fast reply - for some reason I thought it had at one point converted buffalo or tarsuses. Tarsi. Tarsei? Them things.

Nevermind! I can still work with that, I think.  Going to be a little messier, and I forsee much complaining about how people forgot to strip the weapons off stuff...

He means the convert button under the undo in the refit screen,
and if it wouldis to be used for converting a Tarsus or Buffalo into a Condor or Buffalo mkII as per the Codex descriptions -

as for the second part, I'm not so sure either., unless it's a sort of prediction about the convert button attaining the ability somewhere down the line and some problem being caused by, say...A Tarsus' weapons/weapon slots appearing/being lost on the conversion process into a Condor.

Well, it might strip it automatically, no harm in that.

Oh, sorry - I didn't actually mean to sound mysterious :)

There are mod functions to add and remove ships from the player's fleet, so you can via contrived methods make an upgradable ship - for example a blueprint that you buy to convert one Tarsus into one Condor for example.

The problem being - there's no way of telling currently whether a ship has any weapons mounted on it - so if I do that for a mod, then whatever was on that Tarsus is now gone.  Irrelevant to the original thread topic though - I'm sure that when that button (or whatever other method is used) is actually implemented properly, it will be fine.

Ohhh! cool find :D I never even noticed that was there.

I wonder if it will support multiple path upgrades (ie, ship X to ship X 2a or ship X 2b)
