still alive?
« on: October 10, 2011, 06:33:16 AM »

so i baught this about a month ago as a friend reccommended it and just wondering when we can get a little more content into the game, or when the next patch may be out.  to be honest the forums are very very quiet.....2 active threads in general discussion this month.  i have baught other alpha games in the past and hate to point out that if you want to keep the community alive,  there needs to be some pretty rapid development of the game.  what i have seen seems nice.  but personally im far from being happy with the game in its current incarnation.  probably played maybe 3 hours total since i purchased,  single missions not really my thing.  what is out looks good.   reminds me a lot of starscape which i loved. so i guess i would be interested in some kind of info as to how we are progressing.  hope i dont come accross as a whiner.

First off, thank you for your support in buying the game - believe me, I appreciate it!

Second, "still alive", already? Seems a bit premature to me :) The last release wasn't all that long ago, though the next one will take longer than originally planned, as talked about in this blog post. Speaking of that, the blog is the best way to keep up with any development updates.

Yeah, absolutely - sometimes what we're working on may lend itself to faster release cycles, sometimes (as when it's large features), it may not. Sorry, no hints now, but I suppose I'll have to post something to the blog in the near future, won't I :)

I'm gettin' better

... says the guy that didn't want to go on the cart. Man, no one is going to get this.

i love the idea that your planning to go with the game...the largerer stratigic area is is what im most interested in for sure,  i have some experiance in modding of games,  was part of the star trek legacy mod to make that game.....playable,  so if yas have anything that needs help with on the non graphic side of things let me know.  im probably the worlds worst graphic designer XD

Haha, I'm so excited for this game. I don't know what part of it I'm the most excited for -- the whole strategic layer probably, but also the crew/officer systems and the lightweight RPG stuff.

But yeah, I can hardly wait! I know it'll be awhile yet before we see the final product, but I'll be checking in frequently to see if any new information appears in the blog  ;D

Heh, I'm doing contributions/mods for games with even longer update cycles. This is /FAST/ for me. :D

@KaidenOZ:

In the interest of defending Alex, this latest release is looking to be the biggest yet; work on it has been feverish. You know he quit his day job to work on this game like 24/7, right?

All I'm saying is don't doubt his resolve, this *** is going to be awesome. It's just one of those releases that touches a lot of aspects of the game.

I'm playing the really long game and hoping that once Alex is satisfied with the single player we'll get some form of skirmish Multiplayer like Mount & Blade didl

What Trylobot said. The forum's quiet because there hasn't been much in the way of new announcements or releases lately, and we know that's because Alex et al. are working on something big. We're still here. :)

Yeah. It's understandable that it takes longer for the next release to come out since it's going to be a major revision. That's the bad news. The goods news, though, rather outweighs that. The beginning of the campaign mode! It's safe to say that I'm excited about that and once it comes out, I intend to talk about the game in places and with people more.

Another reason I'm looking forward to the campaign is because I've managed to win all the missions except Dire Straits - when I finally won Nothing Personal, I got a score of 88%!

Speaking of still alive, you better tell me that literally all of the source code for this game is backed up somewhere after what happened to Project Zomboid

That's horrible, hadn't heard about that. Guess it just happened... wow. I really feel for those guys - having to redo a ton of work sucks.

As far as SF, nothing to worry about on that front - using commercial third-party source code repository hosting, in addition to the code being on the machines that the actual works is done on, of course. The peace of mind is well worth the several hundred dollars a year that it costs.

Edit: Just read up on the PZ thing... damn, it goes far beyond just the lost work. Hopefully they'll recover from this and come back strong.

Man, those guys just can't catch a break... and it doesn't help that they seem to have the full attention of every troll on the internet.
