Black Guard is going to be a total conversion for Starfarer set in the Nightfall universe, and will feature space battles on an epic scale.

Work is still in its early phases but I thought it would provide a little encouragement to post updates here on the forum as I work.

Once the sprites' vectors are complete and finalised I'll do overpaints of them in photoshop to really get them up to scratch, so for now they're all very much a work-in-progress.
Obviously the mod can't really get started until the campaign element has been added to the game proper, so the following is for a series of prequel missions;

Something like this makes me want someone to do an EVE Online, ship mod. That would be AWESOME. I'd do it myself but I don't have art skills what so ever.

interesting designs. what scale are you going by ?, im not convinced bigger ships in this game is a good idea given the limited distance scale combat is normally occuring over. some of those renders are enormous. i would prefer to see 1:1 scale images you will be putting to the game.

Perhaps this mod is more about missile combat, or just a rebalancing of weapons should do it. Extra long range guns would be something that only the largest ships can carry, and more often than not, don't carry in abundance.

So, one thing... Is this an establishe brand/IP or something you're covering, or is this all your own? Because for some reason the OP does make me think that it's supposed to be an adaptation of some scifi setting but there's no explicit mention of such...

isnt it some old 90ish scifi series that got cancelled or something... or maby it just finished? cant remember several seasons anyway (had the "hercules" actor playing main char) thought it was pretty good although lot of cliches and vutnot but in a goodway... (cant see any lawsuits coming from it, its dead in water... :3)

It's to an accurate scale, with the Gaian Carrier at about a kilometre long, and the fighters in the 10 to 20 metre range. The rationale behind the scale, aside from it being more realistic, is that manually targeted large weapons should be useless against fighter craft, only point defence systems (which don't need to be manually aimed) will be of much use against them. Basic resolution issues might mean that scaling up the fighters is necessary, but I'd prefer not to have to
