null pointer on start [FIXED for 0.34a]

hi
I just downloaded the linux version
on the first screen I get an empty dropdown list (screenshot attached)
when I hit Play Starfarer the game quits with a null pointer exception

Hi, sorry for the trouble! This is a known issue, and is in the next release. It's related to incorrectly detecting available display resolutions in some cases.
 
You can use this build in the meantime:
http://www.fractalsoftworks.com/starfarer/builds/starfarer_linux_res.zip

There's a "resolutionOverride" setting in data/config/settings.json that you can set to the desired value.
