I'm not sure if it count's as 'fantastic', but my experience with a Wolf has generally led to me phase skimming in to trouble rather than out of it. I tend to keep them as AI controlled escorts from now on, after losing about three starting ships that way.

And using some of the modded frigates with burn drives (Dakota I think from IFed, Sickle from JP) tends to see me activate them in the midst of an asteroid field ...

Watching your ship accidentally launch itself on a collision course for one of those asteroids at about 300+ speed, crash, flameout, and spend half a minute helplessly spinning around in space is actually far more amusing than it should be.

I discovered that flaming out on an onslaught while going in excess of 150distance/s can be quite useful in performing hit & run (and does a ridiculous amount of ramming damage, can shove even large capships away at decent velocities, and the ramming maneuver is also useful to protect your missiles until they arrive at their destination so that they don't get shot down by flak or PD beams)
