my "Dream Team"
« on: July 30, 2012, 11:03:42 AM »

all from the Tach faction.

one Apogee or a capital ship carrier, the Paragon if i get lucky.
escorted by 2 Medusas.

i fly the Hyperion escorted by a Tempest.

none of these ships have missiles installed, which allows me to to enhance their energy weapon load-out.
i favor long range so at the beginning of the game it means mostly Graviton Beams, then High Intensity Lasers later on for the bigger ships.

me and the Tempest provide support in the back to take care of fighters at the beginning of the fight.
then, it's off hunting.

the speed of the Hyperion and Tempest allows me to conduct strikes behind enemy lines as the fight progress.

the most fun i had is when the enemy steals my beacons at the beginning of the fight.
i go steal theirs and some of these fights were awesome as we were trading Nav beacons and such.

in the end, their broken hulls glisten like so many jewels in the dark of space.
we all get to the bars on Corvus II and trade war stories around a pint of Klingon ale.  ;D

My dream team is in development, but goes fairly amazing right now.
1x Medusa
1x Odyssey
1x Apogee
2x Tempest
3x Warthog wings
4x Broadsword wings
Odyssey can handle any ship, capitals included if supported and they start on even ground, and fills loads of roles (carrier, fire support, etc.) The apogee is fast enough to wreck up destroyers and cruisers, the medusa MURDERS destroyers and frigates, the warthogs are effectively like pouring lava over an enemy, they blaze through defence and the lmgs are mean. 4x broadswords gives immunity to fighters.

Properly outfitted, I'm partial to a Conquest with Enforcer support, Wasps, a Venture, and Broadswords. The Wasps excel at tying up enemy fleets, dealing with bombers, providing PD escort, and capping points, while the Enforcers bring a huge amount of firepower, rockets, and toughness to bear at extremely long ranges.

The Conquest is just fun to fly and is quick enough to get from battle to battle, and the Broadswords are great for support and filling gaps.

6x Lashers
3x Enforcers
2x Dominators
1x Onslaught

I don't think I've ever had more fun running anything else.
The six Standard Lashers to cap points and slow down the quicker enemy ships.
And everything else is just raw firepower and damage sponges.

EDIT: Oh, and this fleet is going to be *** awesome once the ship systems get in.

I'm not sure if its my 'dream team', but this is my current fleet and I'm loving it:

2 x Hammerhead (Heavy Mauler and Heavy Needler)
1 x Gemini (No advanced engines - fighters have too hard a time docking :P)
3 x Broadswords
3 x Talons

Its not a full fleet but can punch far outside of its weight class. The Talons perform just great with veteran crews and plenty of other fighter support - once the heavy maulers have breached armor the 1200 dps they provide can be just brutal. Wasps still eat them for breakfast though (as they should).

My favorite small fleet is:

Conquest Elite ( flagship)
Hammerhead Elite
2 Thunder wings
Gladius wing
Gemini Standard

Given the resources to replace fighters i can take out almost everything with this fleet.

Straight up Wolves.
4 assault loaded Wolf-Class Frigates
I can tear up just about anything.
If I ever feel like going for some of the pirate attack fleets I'll bring my strike carrier and cruiser (they vary depending on the playthrough, sometimes I go for price rather than quality :P) out of storage and go buy some Wasps and Hounds to draw fire.
Those phase skimmers are a dream come true for running down fleeing frigates and wounded fighter squadrons.  8)
The bigger fleets can still make me sweat from time to time however.  ;D

I roll around with this:
5x Aurora-class custom-Balanced Cruisers
3x Medusa-class custom-Balanced Destroyers
2x Tempest-class Attack Frigates

What can I say. I love Auroras.

Currently, I'm flying with:

2x Hyperion
1x Omen (piloted by me)
1x Aurora
1x Odyssey
1x Paragon

It kills everything easily. Sometimes smaller ships get away, but with the next patch the Hyperion's AI should be better about how it uses the teleporter when intercepting. Ideally, I'd have maybe 1 more Hyperion in that fleet, but I'm not having much luck with that. I have replacements for everything but those Hyperions. =/

Also, I'm considering replacing that Odyssey with my other Paragon.

I've been having fun with my All Enforcers: All The Time fleet.

Pretty much identical loadouts with 2x flak, 2x HVD, and 1x mauler. I have two or three with Annihilator rockets, but the rest use harpoons, sabots, and/or Atropos torpedoes because if you get too many rockets flying in various directions you run into a lot of friendly fire.

With enough high-ranked crew, they snipe and overwhelm just about everything with clouds of rockets and loads of high-damage, high-EMP projectiles, and Burn Drive lets them move to support each other very nicely.
