I know this probably isn't something that necessarily originates from Star Trek, but considering this game does refer to it a bit. Or I think it does? Maybe those are references that go even further back or further out there...

That episode of DS9 where Quark uses one to sell black market weapons always comes to my mind when I install one in a colony.
