No, what i was talking about, was that if people in the starfarer universe has to ability to boost or modify the range of the tachyon lance, they could potentially ramp up the range to interstellar proportions.

That's easy, just remove all the restrains from it at it becomes a faster-then-light gun with limitless range, you'll make space travel far to hazardous if you do this though.

:P I know that! I've read the lore, which is why I brought it up in the first place.

And anyway, aren't guns supposed to make "everything" hazardous?

Now if only there were some Energy equivalents of weapons like the Mauler, HAG or the Mark IV Autocannon, or the simple Machine gun.

I'm not all that interested in having 'equivalents' between energy and ballistics - part of what makes the whole system interesting to me is that the weapons have their own strengths and weaknesses.

As to the original post: it would be interesting to see this as a hullmod, but it would be more than a little screwy with balance. A full 50% range boost would just be ludicrous... but then again without the damage increase energy weapons become a bit anemic. I don't think this could be done with a mod at the moment because the energy damage boost is hardcoded in (or at least I've never seen a mention in the api's).

i was thinking about damage boost for beam type weapons, but change the boost to fire rate instead of damage for non-beam energy weapons like heavy blaster and autopulse.

Thats a neat idea. Something like fire rate and ammo recharge rate increased.

A third option, nice.
