Midline Silver Skins

MSS was made to give the player a Midline fleet that was visually distinct (on the most basic level) from vessels fielded by vanilla factions. I've included white-gray skins for all combat Midline ships, fighters, and stations. The new skins are featured in the Midline blueprints, so you will see other factions using some of these ships. The larger and rarer hulls will need to have their blueprints found. The new station sprites in this mod will allow players to construct aesthetically matching Midline orbital stations, battlestations, and star fortresses; these stations can be built from the get-go and do not require any blueprints. Appropriate codex entries have been made for the sake of completeness. This is ultimately a visual mod, all ships and stations are identical to their vanilla counterparts in every respect besides the sprites used.

Changelog
V1.0.1 Release Notes
This update fixes the botched initial release, meaning you can actually field Midline Silver ships without having to create variants yourself. This also means the previous claim of other factions being able to use these ships is now correct. All variants were taken from vanilla.
  • removed ship_data.csv mentions for Midline Silver fighters, as this was pointless while using ship skin files
  • updated skin files to include correct descriptions and prefixes for Midline Silver ships
  • added vanilla variants for all Midline Silver warships, meaning factions can actually use them now

It looks like you just desaturated these sprites. IMO, this would be even better if you redid them with an overlay or something to preserve things like the lights on the bridge and fighter bays, the fighter cockpits, etc

Basically. This is a first foray into adjusting sprites, and I was looking to get a bland and neutral color for my own faction to use; I figured other people might enjoy the results. Thanks to many hours of tedious trial and error I've learned to implement custom sprites and stations. As far as the lights on the bridge and fighter bays go, they seem visible to me (and considering the chosen color it makes sense that it'd be hard to distinguish them from the rest of the hull).

I don't know which mod added it but I (for the first time today) have seen an option when refitting my ships called Paint Job's and it lets you set the skin for the ship, that is awesome and I would love to see this mod apply the same effect. You can keep the mod as is but add the extra function to your mod and the default games ships (if possible - you would also need to discover the mod that uses that function and ask to borrow the code - sorry for being so clueless, but just putting the idea out there).

I did think of looking at what others have done, but more often than not the effort involved was beyond my current skill level. This little project was my intro to SS modding, and I still have a long way to go before being "proficient", to say the least. What I did was quite simple, but the work is painfully tedious. A common framework to introduce paintjobs across the board would be nifty, but it'd be a group undertaking and that isn't always easy. Right now I'm just looking to build up some skill before tackling bigger projects.

Like Zalpha said. Check out: https://starsector.wiki.gg/wiki/MagicLib#MagicPaintjobs
A common framework to introduce paintjobs across the board was made already!
