People who didn't care for PD suddenly realising it's useful to have in fleet. Also Doom is another ez pz mode ship for hypershunt fight.
Hah, fair enough comment! X)
To also be fair though, few ships had a lot of large energy slots. There's more ships with large ballistic (the Invictus has 10x large ballistics, it's flipping insane).
Apogee: 1x hardpoint so mehChampion: 1x
Sunder (LG): 1x hardpoint so meh, and new, and glass cannonExecutor (LG): 2x and new
Odyssey: 2x +1 large synergy (so technically 3x, though IMO the synergy is better for missiles)
Paragon: 4x and why bother with Paladin PD
With Automated Ships skill (a fairly focused character-build):
Brilliant: 1x
Nova: 2x and new
Radiant: 3x +2 large synergy (so technically 5x)
In aggregate:
Pre-0.97: there were 3 human ships that could realistically mount the Paladin PD. 1x cruiser midline and 2x capital high-tech.
In 0.97: there were 4 human ships. 1x cruiser midline, 1x capital midline and 2x capital high-tech.
So Alex realized that he needed to focus our attention on an underappreciated (and somewhat limited-use-case) weapon. Therefore: Anubis (cruiser high-tech) and Paladin buffs.
In 0.98: there are 5 human ships. 1x cruiser midline, 1x cruiser high-tech, 1x capital midline and 2x capital high-tech. It's a step in the right(?) direction.
Which got our attention, made us start thinking about it more, and decide to give it a try in various scenarios. Successful. Now he tunes the combo.
(Going by this I also expect to see a few more ships in future with 1 or 2 large energy slots. Perhaps another midline capital and a couple more midline/high-tech cruisers.)
