I want to instal new version of Starsector. Should i uninstall older version first? Saves will be lost?

My suggestion, if you run with any mods at all: rename the old version, install the new one alongside it, keep both until/unless you decide you don't want to go back.

It's generally best to assume that saves won't be compatible between versions. (They might be, but there's never a guarantee, and loading up old saves can break things in weird ways sometimes.)

The only time the updates broke for me was this one. If you're honestly worried, you can copy your CK-Key from registry and backup your files just in case. Worst case scenario you just put the files back in after. I do agree with assuming saves are useless though. I guess it depends how the new codex files are loaded

duplicate the entire starsector game directory before you do any update.

update the game, copy old save over and see if things still work, always assume the worst, i dont think any of us able to give you 100% accurate answer since everybody has different game/mode version/settings.

you should still able to play in your newly duplicated folder, if anything goes wrong.
