Introduction

Do you like being constantly uncertain of the distinction between a large frigate and a small destroyer? Do you enjoy shootouts over whether a ship is a small cruiser or large destroyer? Do you want to drive in close and empty out your magazines right now?

Then come on over to Uta-Fae Shipyards, where the customer almost always leaves.

Our ships are noted for pushing the envelope of what even classifies as a given hull size-we have frigates almost as fragile-I mean, fast-as fighters, a destroyer with the sensible armament of a frigate, and a light cruiser with the firepower of a heavy and less armor than some destroyers!

Our signature hullmod, the Cruise Drive, significantly improves our ships' 0-flux speed boost, improving their mobility and freeing up their systems for offensive or utility purposes.

Frigates

The Spine, a cute little customs corvette.

The Bramble, an attempt at a brawler competitor that ballooned until it technically became a destroyer. Such a poorly-armned ship could never be sold as a destroyer, however, so its a superheavy frigate.

The Prick, a speedy frigate that only slightly struggles against actually substantial foes.

The Briar, an incredibly well-armored, if slow, heavy frigate.

The Rind, a large frigate built around an old prototype blaster.

The Blossom, a heavy frigate with interesting choices in armament.

The Awn, basicly the Kite's bigger, hardier cousin.

The Frond, a missile support frigate that struggles in close combat.

The Hippomenes/Melanion, a pair of twin light frigates-one uses energy weapons, the other ballistics.

Destroyers

The Parthenopaeus, a scaled-down Atalanta-class cruiser, capable of swiftly carrying heavy firepower to wherever it needs to be.

The Hitchhiker, a fast, low-tech ground assault craft.

The Bough, an artillery destroyer specialized in very long-ranged sniping.

The Tuber, a good escort to have in your orbit.

Cruisers

The Atalanta, a fast and agile light cruiser, with a very heavy armament. Best suited to short engagements, lest its unremarkable flux systems prove inadequate.

The Bogoak, a more lightly-armed Atalanta, optimized for escort duty.

The Kauri, a Bogoak with carrier facilities shoved down its throat.

The Oxylo, an artillery cruiser with numerous secondaries

Capital Ships

The Boscage, a battlecruiser that attempts to combine a centerline battery with significant broadside firepower.

The Canopy, a smallish capital with gravitas

Uta-Fae (non-missile) weapons are almost always magazine-fed and short-ranged, but fire high-velocity projectiles at an impressive rate.

Weapons/Wings

From left to right:

  • A Leafnibbler pulse laser, for fast, close-in point defense
  • A pair of Forestfire torpedoes. Fast, if lightly-armored.
  • A Brushclearer turret, loaded with high-explosive proximity-fused shells.
  • A wing of Pinprick interceptors, miniaturized pricks.

The Leaffall, a medium autocannon designed to swiftly overload shields

The Snagsnap, a small SRM launcher. High max speed, low acceleration, and surprisingly long flight time.

The Uprooter a large, flux-efficient pulse laser

The Trunkcrusher, a modified magazine-fed Gauss Cannon

Lore

(wip)

Utanay Heavy Industries (the latter part of the name changed many times) was a positively ancient company, which started as a designer of ship armor, and often manufactured other companies' designs under license.

Arifae Engineering was founded much later, during a shift in doctrine and technology that we now recognize as the beginning of Midline design.

The two companies merged not long after the latter's founding.

The combined Uta-Fae Shipyards experienced a brief golden age in the middle of the midline era, only to slowly decline in wealth and influence

They set up in the Persean sector fairly early on, hoping to get a leg up on the local market, but aggressive moves from other competitors left them sidelined.

Still, some of the major factions still use ships from their glory days, and some independent ship captains are quite fond of their Uta-Fae designed ships.

Now THAT is a capital firmly utilizing the "MORE FIREPOWER" doctrine!

awesome

I try.

Now THAT is a capital firmly utilizing the "MORE FIREPOWER" doctrine!

Just, uhh, try not to fire them all at once, or else the flux systems might explode.

...that's not an actual mechanic, but now I'm tempted to try and make something simliar happen.

I would love to see a built in hull-mod that makes overfluxed ships have minor explosions on gunports. It would look funny especially if pirates could just kill themselves with it. XD

Great first mod - really like the ship designs, saw your post on Reddit. Hoping for them to become a faction in the future just to see lots more of their fleets flying around.

Best of luck!

I do have an idea for a faction that they would (partially) make up. The stuff in this pack would be the pre-collapse stuff that's commonly available, and the faction would use both it and their own post-collapse stuff. I might release it as a submod, so that anybody who might prefer just a ship pack could keep it as one.
