A very important thing is that you also don't have to drive your entire fleet around for every mission. There is absolutely nothing wrong with storing your big combat fleet. If you're doing a small exploration or a bunch of little cargo missions or something diplomatic where you don't need a massive war fleet and just enough ships will do the job.

i find it obnoxious that i have to deposit 80 weapons, a ton of goods. And then then unbind all my officers. So I can deposit a camera on an orbit for 70k credits.

I mean, i get that those are meant to be a stealth missions. But it doesn't feel like stealth, it feels a bit like a chore list

You could just not do the mission. There is such a thing as "not worth my time, Subaltern, I'm the commander of a mercenary force of capital ships".

Yeah, these are the ones where I use the fast and sneaky phaeton/pirate buffalo with 5x phase frigates. Fairly easy and worthwhile for eary-mid game, never mind once we are doing decent bounties.

That small combo of ships is also useful for part of the Galatea quest chain.

mhmmmmm, never liked doing cheese. I'm too much of an honor obsessed person. Though fortunately my conscience is no way near as self-destructive as it was before

That makes me think smuggler fleets should have some sort of a phase ship increase multiplier. But without Gremlin and Grendel having phase field it'd get kind of monotonous.

But it'd be a good field to test phase ships in NPC fleets

have multiple save game slots. use another slot from time to time, anything goes wrong, load.

dont explore far from core world in the begining, its dangerous and expensive, you need constant income to fund your exploration.

start by doing simple quest, buy/sell resource between planets/systems, kill pirates.
can consider turn off transponder then attack/rob cargo fleet, do not salvage and sell ships.
then
colonize a planet in system with gate, store ships that you dont use and not willing to sell.
do quest to enable gate, with enough saving you can start exploration.

To throw in my 2 cents, run Volturnian Lobsters. Askonia Star System has the planet Volturn which is where you can buy the Lobsters for cheap (70-80 credits) and Sindria where you can buy supplies and fuel, usually for cheaper or at market price. Then by checking the markets (click f1 when your mouse is hovering over the lobsters) you can usually find a planet that will want them for 150-300 credits giving you incredible profits.

I was just teaching a friend of mine to play and I suggested he run lobsters. His first run net him 100k-ish in profit (he did buy and sell all the lobsters on the planet so high cargo capacity was the main reason he could make so much). Once you have a reserve of credits you can start buying higher quality ships which let you handle larger bounties which gives you more money. It's a good way to get initial capital but also a good way to rebuild capital after a loss.

Good luck starfarer.

dear new players,

steal ***

see a trade fleet?
They are up for grabs, remember in space no one can hear you scream

there is an excess of a good on a planet? You can buy it, sure...
But did you know excess goods have poorer protection cause no one cares?
Just steal it!

Pirate contact asks you to smuggle drugs? Sure...
Pirate contact has a mission to rob Gustavo's cache?
>:3

Why do bounty hunting for Core Worlds when they pay nothing? When you can just steal their freaking oranges and then resell them to them at premium prices?

srsly though the best way to earn money in this game is to kill trade convoys probably
either that or hunting Remnants sneakily

By the way, if you stack the makeshift equipment and derelict operations in industry, you can have > 240 DP fleets with multiple capitals cost < 5 supply/day.  Still burns a lot of fuel, but this setup is excellent if you're doing a lot of core worlds fighting.  Fuel can be handled with a prometheus...or at most 2 of those for very beefy late game fleets.

You straight up gain supply from basically every fight if you don't lose a bunch of ships.

Or, if you play as an honest salvager, there's nothing preventing you from listening in to where the next pirate raid is going to be, and showing up to harvest lots of stuff floating around, plus free vessels for use or sale. Early-ish game you can build up a pretty decent, if randomish fleet, just by keeping track of intel and showing up.
