Hey, that's a corrupted download - please re-download the mod, delete the old one and unpack the new download into the mod folder.

This mod adds over 70 new planet textures to the game to increase the variety of planets you can find. It also adds some variations to the planet types that exist, but no new ones and no new conditions (get Unknown Skies for that!). Naturally comes with new planet descriptions for the more unique variants.

For instance: Desert planets will spawn as salt desert, basalt desert or brine sea planets - or as normal desert, using one of the alternate "desert" textures included in the mod. This applies to most planet types.

The mod does not increase the amount of planets, and does not* change any existing planets. It is purely visual.
*except for two types.

And more!
The original textures used can be found here

To install the mod, simply download the .zip file from the link above, unzip it in your Starsector mods directory, and enable it in the launcher.

Can be added to ongoing games, but is not safe to remove from ongoing games.

There are currently no known compatibility issues with other mods.

I know this isn't the purpose of this pack, but I had the thought go through my mind of what if unknown skies had a compatibility patch for additional stuff besides the visuals for these.

Awesome mod.
Thank you :)

I'm talking to James, the current US maintainer - we're looking to shuffle some content around between the two mods and will be cooperating on a patch that sets up Kaleidoscope as the "Variants for existing planets" and Unknown Skies as the "New planet types" mod (this means, for instance, that Fungal and Metal worlds will move to US). The move includes variants for the US planets in my mind, but it's not finalized yet.

Thanks for the fast update. Even if there aren't particularly notable mechanical difference, it helps the place be PRETTY.  :)

I think this mod caused Duzahk to have like 50 planets in orbit, overlapping and stuff.

Thank you, I sincerely appreciate it :)

That is a development feature that only ever happens if you use devmode, which you really shouldn't - it breaks a bunch of stuff with mods. I'll try to remember to disable this for the next release, but since I need it to actually make the mod, I can't promise I'll remember. Very sorry for the inconvenience!

Yes, the mods function alongside each other, US is even linked in the mod post because you will get the best experience using them both at once :)

Hello, I saw your MOD introduction on Reddit earlier, and some of the images reminded me of many 4X strategy games, which are very exciting!

May I forward this mod to the China Starsector forum (fossic.org)? And can it run normally under 0.97a-RC11?

Heya, anyone know where could I find a list for the planet type for each different named variant? Id love to use them for a console command that changes planet type, so I can use TASC alongside the commands to terraform planets into the variants from this mod.
