LP Brawler and Scintilla spoiled me so much.
« on: February 21, 2025, 11:29:14 PM »

I know my capitals are better and i take them out + escorts whenever i need to bust a star fortress or such but 20 LP Brawlers + 5 flash bomber Scintillas/Condors (or something) is so good at being cheap, replaceable, stealthy and killing fleets quickly it's not even a competition.

You can't kill multiple fleets unless it's garbage that can be done quickly like pirates or Diktat but for single fleets you can go into red beacon systems to hunt single ordos and frigates recover so fast you just need a 2-4 days to recover and hunt more.
I'd use LP Brawlers alone but you need flash bombers(or Piranhas if you don't have them yet) to break enemy formations. It's not as much about killing as forcing the enemy to spread out and die.

Is there anything as good as that for early/mid game? I like the dakka from capitals but they are ridiculously slow, expensive to maintain and stealthy as an elephant.

Not an exhaustive list, just the 'easiest' ships that came to mind when writing; Omen spam (SO or not SO), SO Scarabs, SO Hyperions, SO Tempests, Harpoon spam, Medusas, Hammerheads, Afflictors, Shades, Harbinger, even XIV Enforcers, these all have some strong way to handle any threat in the game. Mostly. A few of these ships can't become good at handling DEMs (Omens and Hyperions can struggle against DEMs) and frigates can suffer unlucky deaths. Let me show you the power of Omens specifically, they are funny and goofy, not only good at fleet support. You could probably use your flash if you want to too, there's more than one way to break apart enemy formations.

I like using an Astral or Pegasus or Gryphons or whatever as the 'upgrade' to this goofy sort of fleet to help stack even more damage with the Omens, since missiles can pass over friendly collision boxes.

Honorable mention to Vanguard. Very versatile frigate that gets hyper mega countered by any sort of beam enemy.

With only Brawlers and bombers don't enemy fighters give you trouble?

LP brawlers are actually alright at dealing with fighters. Not something the fleet can rely on as a dedicated fighter screen, but with AAF and ACG they’ll shred pretty much any fighter it points at and I know from experience that Hyperions and brawlers love to point their hardpoints at fighters.

And the bombers he’s using are flash, very good at incidentally killing fighters.

Right, and with the ACG being in a hardpoint that is very hard for the AI to do, at least consistently.

Good point about Flash bombers though.
