About population 8
« on: January 13, 2025, 11:39:08 AM »

Pop 8 "one of the few worlds". But so far there is only Chicomoztoc.
I don't think it'd be a bad idea to make a few more 8 pop worlds as long as it wouldn't destroy the game's balance by creating massive military fleets that would just *** blow everything up.

Worlds that I propose we could make pop 8.
Gilead, Volturn.
Gilead could be pop 8, cause it's the centre of Luddic Church. It'd explain where they get the money for their stuff in spite of being extremely restricted in terms of morality. (Tri-Tachyon music starts playing)

Volturn could be population 8 to explain where all the people from Opis went. Though it's not really necessary. I think it'd be fun.

But this would kinda convolute the lore a bit...
The narrative.

Gilead's population of 7 in spite of being a perfect terran world could be explained by the fact that Luddic Church just kinda sucks. Their restrictive approach to life's philosophy means that very few people actually want to live under their regime. And they could also aspire to hold Gilead only for those who are worth it. Thus causing its population to not grow as fast as it could be.

Volturn on the other hand is a harsh world. And I assume most of the people on Opis just died. And Sindrian Diktat having under its control a population 8 world would mean that their population would rival that of Hegemony.

So, actually... Scrap this idea.

Uh, well, hold on there, I think there's something to be said about population 8.

What if we gave the Cryosleeper the ability to make ONE player colony population 8, maybe through a questline? And only once, like maybe it's a questline that requires finding a special item or ship hidden that the cryosleeper can start you on a quest for, so that way you can't get multiple cryosleepers giving you multiple population size 8.

EDIT: Meant size 7. Oops.

I think anything like that probably shouldn't bump a player colony to population 8 (instead moving more than one planet to 7, maybe?) because that would represent a likely MASSIVE increase in the population of the Persean sector. With the current system it'd invariably have consequences, as the player would become the second-most populous faction in the blink of an eye...

I remember reading a similar suggestion before, I liked it. It probably shouldn't be 8, but 7 sounds good. That way, even if done twice on two different worlds (for both cryosleepers player can find), your faction population wouldn't encroach on Chicomoztoc.

there's a small amount of population 7 colonies...

If there was a population 7 player colony via that thing. It should have a crisis tied to it. You know how cryosleeper implies something?

Whoops. I meant population 7, sorry. I was thinking the baseline was size 3 to 7 for a moment, haven't paid close attention to developing colonies in a few months.

honestly population size 8, is an insane feat. Hundreds of millions in a world that was inhabited for one to two decades max in most playthroughs! Considering the narrative and gameplay implications, it seems like post-main quest material, if it can happen at all.

By the same token, having main quest completion award an item that allows you to push a single colony to size 8 with cryosleepers and/or natural growth would be cool. Maybe you could even make the process and aftermath of pushing a colony to size 8 be a key part of post-game content, with several quest lines that can only generate on a size 7 player colony and several more quest lines that can only generate on a size 8 player colony. Ditto with crises.

Personally, I'd like to see a more realistic population sim.  Where there's normal pop growth (pop double every 20 years), but most pop growth is by transportation.  So there's actual transport fleets that visit your planets to deliver population, and it's something else to protect. Perhaps capture.  Finding the cryo-sleeper then is an important feed for population, as people will migrate away from your colony naturally too.  A reason to use the personal hauler ships in quantity.  Obviously this is all in just a thought stage.

If there were to be a second size 8 market, Gilead is likely it. There's something to stability plus population growth.

I'd say that cryo-sleeper pop-growth should be an event progress bar directly linked to a slider that drains your credits like no tomorrow (flat increase with distance and another flat value multiplied by the habitability of the target) as to represent that you are essentially pulling people out of thin-air, naked and afraid, who need all their infrastructure and logistics needs taken care of.

The reward upon completing the awakening process being the chosen size 6 colony reaching size 7 and a massive but decaying stability hit (or spread over the progress bar to make fast growth riskier) which then turns into some kind of bonus once it reaches 0, maybe throw-in a crisis with another faction accusing you of abducting them as a reason for sending "rescue" operations, for good measure.

Gilead should probably be pop 9. They have had this better-than-Earth world for like 200 years, they severely restrict entertainment options, and an agriculture economy incentivizes large families.

Took humanity 200 years to increase population by 1560%
I think LC population can't grow that much faster. If faster at all.

Also, what was the population when the Collapse occurred in Persean Sector?
Maybe Gilead started as a pop 6 colony, who knows? Then growth to 7 wouldn't be that unrealistic.

Depends on which historical parallels we're using -- the Pilgrim colonists, who are in many ways a reasonable parallel to the Luddic Church, had an average of eight surviving children per family, which is the reason an otherwise small region of the U.S. has such a huge influence on its history and economy.
