Fatal Exiting - execption in LWJGL initialization Bug.

Hi there, two Grafic Driver Updates ago my Starsector stoped working.
I am getting the Message
"Fatal Exiting - execption in LWJGL initialization
Cause: Could not bind dummy context
Check starsector.log for more info."

I tried everything I can think of to remedy the Problem.
I deinstalled all mods.
deinstalled the game.
rollback of Grafics drivers.
Complete Formation of my C: Partition and a clean new Windows Install
I tried the "Mikohime Java 23 conversion kit"
I deleted the _JAVA_Options
I tried the compatibility mode
I tried running as admin.

nothing works for me, the same error every time.

Looking forward to find out how easy the soultion was ;-).

Hi - wow, that's a weird error! Hmm. Could you take a look at this post? It talks about how turning off triple buffering in Radeon settings resolved the issue for them:

Edit: also, if you're using MSI Afterburner or the ROG Tweaks App or anything similar, those have been known to cause problems, so I'd try turning them off. Or possibly video capture software. None of this seems super likely if you've tried a fresh windows install, but just wanted to mention it.

Thanks for the Advice, looked it up, but it was already turned off. For safe measures I also tried to deactivate every additional grafic option, but no Luck.

Edit: No Msi Afterburner or ROG Tweaks App here.

Hmm. Just to be double sure about the graphics drivers, could you try using the DDU utility to uninstall them, and then install them afterwards? Sometimes corrupted driver files stick around through driver reinstalls. I'd be surprised if they did through an OS reinstall as well, but... just to make sure.

Thank you for trying that.

Did the game work on this computer before? If it did, do you have any idea what might have changed?

The only other thing that comes to mind to suggest is grabbing a random, substantially older version of the graphics drivers, to see what happens. Honestly, I'm a bit stumped here.

... When I tried to roll back my graficsdriver the first time, I took the Version from October, when the game was still working, now I tried an Update from January 2024.

Lo and Behold its working ;-)

Thanks for your help!

I contacted AMD but I am not very confident that they will fix this issue.

Ah, nice, I'm glad you got it working at least! It seems like now and again a specific driver update will break the game on a system, but it also seems like that usually gets sorted out eventually, so: fingers crossed!
