Hi,

Getting super low fps in the strategic menu during a battle, this starts after entering tab screen for the first time(after deployment one) and gets progressively worse until it reaches 5-10fps and becomes too choppy/impossible to order ships around.

Everything vanilla, I have tried:
- installing java8, java23(manually, and eventually via triOS)
- giving it more ram(8-11gb)
- Disabling vsync in settings.json and upping fps to 1000.
- Tried to do the mikohime recommended settings
- I've only 1gpu, but still set starsector java.exe to high performance(to use 7900xtx)
- Battle size cap doesn't affect the performance, i've tried 200, 400, 1000.
- Reinstalling GPU drivers(using DDU)

I suspected maybe thermal throttling, but i can play other games fine including cyberpunk and temps look fine.

Game is running at 4k resolution, although i did try 1920x1080 and the same issue persists.

You can see the issue here: https://youtu.be/qUa4_SKQIyo?si=MX5YQWehKjFCPgLe&t=135
Here is mine and their fleets: https://postimg.cc/gallery/GTffQZh

AMD Windows Driver Version
32.0.11037.4004

My PC specs:
GPU: AMD 7900 xtx
CPU: R7 5800x3D
Ram: 32gb
Game is installed on a 4tb NVME ssd

Hi - sorry about the trouble! Hmm, this is very strange. Is this vanilla or with mods? The screenshots look vanilla, but just to confirm.

One thing that comes to mind is - have you tried doing a clean (meaning, manually deleting the folder, after copying off your saves/mods/etc) reinstall of the game? It's not super likely that it would help, but it's not impossible, either.

The other possibility that comes to mind is that this may be an issue with this specific version of the graphics driver. If you'r able to try an older version of the driver, that might help. The game doesn't get along particularly well with AMD cards/drivers across the board, but what you're describing - especially the progressively degrading performance - sounds unusual even given that.

May also be worth a look; it talks about how to get the game to use Vulkan instead of OpenGL, which may also get around the problem and get you better performance, too.

This is full vanilla. I did try to reinstall the game.
I did bring up the driver in discord and others with the same amd driver seemed to be doing fine(albeit different card).

I'll try the vulkan workaround & downgrading if that doesn't solve it.

Thanks!

So the Vulkan workaround kinda worked. Instead of degrading from 60+fps to 5-11, it's now 60+ to 35.

Ah - I'm a bit confused by why it would degrade at all, let alone keep doing it when taking such a code different path through the driver (as it's doing now with Vulkan), but I'm glad at least there was improvement!

I also had some performance issues due to AMD shenanigans. Once at home I'll try to remember posting my changes. IIRC I used a number of different tweaks from posts both old and new.

In the meantime, I see you mentioned Mikohime's fixes and java23, so guessing you tried it via mod format, right? As in here: https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=29320.0

If so, never mind this part.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the necro, but it is the only thread about the issue I could find.

I have the same problem, during the strategic view the framerate dropes to the single digits.
I already tried the followeing solution:
-Update to Java 8
-tried to force Starsector use Vulkan
-update to Mikohime Java 24

I have to tried the method where you use Mikohime Java 24 in combination with vulkan.

The game is Vanilla with some changes in the setting.json.
And with vsync on i have a stable 60Hz. Except in the Strategic view.
vmparams set to 6GB.

PC: Gaming Laptop
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics   4.00 GHz
GPU: Geforce RTX 4070 Laptop
RAM: 32,0 GB

Have a nice day.

PS: If I should have started a new Topic let me know.

Hi,

The only way i fixed my issue was via fresh windows installation.
I've tried DDU, vulkan and everything else i could think of at the time.
Not entirely sure what caused it exactly at the time.

Hello, I can confirm that my issue was fixed, after a repair update of windows.
I am also unsure what the issue was in detail.
Thanks for the help, certhusa.  :)
