DISCLAIMER: I wrongly posted these in the Suggestions subforum, if a moderator can transfert this topic to General Discussion I would be grateful.

I'm thinking about doing a run while focusing mostly on combat skill, discarding fleet and industrial buffs and instead relaying more on flagship piloting and cyberenhanced officers.

I realize I'm going to be DP starved in combat compared to the more meta fleet flocus skills built so I would like your opinion on the most efficient usage of deployement point by recommanding some good ships to use with this strategy.

Eradicator, Eagle or Sunders where my first candidate, while I aim for piloting a low DP flagship really benefitting from combat skills like the Odyssey or the Retribution... Not having fleet skills also implies having powerfull frigates or carriers is not optimal. Leaning into a Phase squad could also be interesting. Also, I will be limited to 2 s-mod maximum so the most overly powerfull build are not available and may render some ship less usefull.

Anyway, feels free to share your ideas, build or favorite "space kalashnikovs".

I don't understand the question. The deployment pool is always 160-240 DP no matter your character build so you are never "DP starved". Industry is about as far away from the meta as you can get, and to get strong officers you need to invest into Leadership for Officer Training.

I will have no deployement reduction cost by having derelict operation or the final tier fleet skills. So my fleet will always be severly outnumbered, more than usual.

I would say the most DP-efficient and safe would be a fleet of sniper Eradicators with missile support by Conquests or any 2 capitals of your choice.
Long boring battles, but it can chew through anything the game throws at you without taking any losses, all the way up to multiple ordo fleets at once.

Most people I've seen neither use Derelict Operations nor Support Doctrine and they win battles just fine.

If you wanna go Combat and Technology, get yourself a very good player piloted ship that heavily benefits from being piloted by a somone with a brain (like a SO Aurora, an Odyssey, a Retribution or even an Onslaught with a very aggressive loadout) and then just build a regular fleet around it (1-2 capital ships, some frigates, either good destroyers with Escort Package or a couple of good cruisers that can help your capital ships if you don't wanna get Wolfpack Tactics) and you are good to go.

You don't need 3 S-mods and/or level 6 officers to beat the game. As long as your ships are built """"correctly"""", you will beat 2-3 stacked Ordos just fine.

Atlas mk II.  24 DP for two large missile slots AND two large ballistics WITH an ammo feeder.  Slow, a bit fragile, but if you're patient enough to set yourself up for good attack runs it CHOMPS.

Currently... I would say...

Enforcer, Glimmer, Monitor, pirate Shade & Afflictor, Venture, Falcon, Heron, Eagle, Onslaught, Legion, Paragon, Radiant, Ziggurat, Brilliance, Apex, Scintilla, Gryphon, Mora, Dominator, Rampart, Brawler TT, Medusa, Aurora...

And controversially, I would say Fury and Shrike. They might become really powerful once the NPC behaviour of plasma burn gets fixed.

Unless you're taking on really huge fights, with cyber augged officers you won't struggle at all really. I'm guessing you'll do something like 8/5/2 or 10/5 for skills. Don't underestimate 10%-12% damage reduction and damage dealt for whole fleet. I would avoid carriers though (legion is okay)

If you mean “can potentially kill the most enemy DP relative to its own DP”, phase ships (in general) are top candidates. Personally, I think the pound for pound champion is the Eradicator. 22 DP is slightly more than average for a Cruiser but it just does everything well. Most importantly, it kills stuff quickly with AAF.

That said, Aurora fully kitted is an absolute monster for not much more. It has the advantage of being able to shield tank on top of close/retreat.

Retribution in player hands with lots of combat skills can solo fleets but you need to invest a ton into it. Last one I used was putting out like 4k DPS and wasn’t super fragile.

Medusa is also good but doesn’t kill fast.

Of course a Radiant or Paragon can also demolish entire fleets but they also cost a lot more DP. I haven’t piloted the Nova yet but I imagine in player hands it’s quite dangerous.

Going to 2nd the Eradicator, I have almost never had an issue with it. Pilot the standard Afflictor and just press F on anything that they are unloading on. System Expertise + AMB Afflictor can assassinate just about anything as well as pull aggro and generally keep the enemy fleet in disarray while the Eradicators just unload a wall of Maulers/HVDs, enemy ships don't get much time to react to this with Entropy Amplifier active resulting in very quick kills.

I'm not sure what you're saying, do you mean you want to do a playthrough where you intentionally skip out on the green skill tree or something? Even if you don't take Best of the Best and start with 160 DP, you can still grab some objectives to make it a full 240 DP vs 240 DP fight.

For AI-piloted ships in the player fleet, most DP efficient ships in terms of killing power per DP seems to be be Conquest and/or Gryphon. At least I've yet to see anybody post anything remotely close to what they can put out.

For early game, LP Brawlers are also pretty good.

For the ship that you the player controls, the sky's the limit. I usually start with SO Medusa and then move on to Legion, Onslaught, Doom, Executor, there are a whole bunch of ships that the player can put to good use. The SO Aurora seems to be a popular choice but I've never found it that good compared with the SO Medusa (i.e. the DPS increase from the 12-DP SO Medusa to the 30-DP SO Aurora isn't worth it, I could get more DPS from adding 18 DP of some other ship). But your mileage may vary. Similarly, the [BROCCOLI REDACTED] is a popular choice but again, I can get more with how much DP it costs by using something else, so again your mileage may vary.

Any vanilla low-tech ship with good armor is DP efficient. Due to how Alex balances the game, DP is equal to supply usage on every ship, which is also used as a logistics balance lever, and since low tech logistics are high fuel and low supply use, it generally means they're slightly DP undercosted.

You joke, but it’s a very good ship early on. It just falls off hard once you start facing Cruisers that it can’t face tank. Versus Frigates and Destroyers, it’s stellar.
