I've noticed that the AI puts much more weight on attacking inert station modules (IE ones with no guns) than ones with guns. They will prioritize them for maneuvering, systems, missile launches, fighter strikes, guns, etc, over any target that is firing at them or vulnerable. It is not great!
Consider this for example: An Afflictor is using its Entropy Amplifier and its weapons on a blank armor module protected by a fortress shield when a gun module is exposed.
The other Afflictor and the omen are also targeting it, though they haven't gotten in range yet. This continued throughout the fight, with the majority of the AI ships hitting the wrong targets, including firing at the inert target between 2 gun modules rather than either of the two modules.
I would prefer if the AI never attacked these inert modules at all unless no other target was in range. Yes, it is sometimes valuable to hit these 'blocking' modules as destroying them can open up firing lines to more vulnerable targets. But if the 'vulnernable' target is right there ready to be shot, there is not need to open an opportunity! As it stands, I just don't think this behavior passes the "dumb" test, especially as the player has no ability to direct targeting vs stations.
