Combat Background Enhanced
Download
Code repo
Combat Background Enhanced focuses on adding visual flare by procedurally generating asteroid fields and hulk fleets in the background of fleet combat.
Can be added/removed from existing saves.
Features
Layered background rendering system that simulates depth in the visuals and fades out from the main combat action
Hulk fleets based on nearby factions in the region.
Automatically supports modded factions and custom ships they use.
Asteroid fields.
Procedural generation so each background is unique.
Support for modular part ships and stations with broken off pieces.
Combat Background Enhanced will have an extra performance cost on combat rendering. If you are having issues with this, I added a settings file that you can use to toggle on/off some of the larger performance contributors as you need.

- Updated to version 0.98
- Added support for modular ships. Previously these were skipped when generating fleet wreckage and will now show up.
- Added stations to background generation logic.
- Added config (CombatBackgroundEnhanced_Settings) for toggling off certain features to improve performance.

That looks really interesting, the wrecks especially. Are the hulks based on whether you're fighting near a debris field (like come other background effects taking cues from campaign location) ?
Options to set the density of the effects would be really cool too.

Mod is cool but imho it will bee better if broken hulls in background apear when fight is located on salvage field or near derelict ships.

So, let me see if I understand correctly. It draws hulks and other objects on a lower level so they are visually there but no interaction with ships in combat. If that is correct I think it would be great if you could include a console command to move hulks in the combat layer down into your new layer over time. Sometimes the battlefield gets too cluttered and I think it's kinda silly in 3d space to have a wall of debris cutting me off from the enemy.

dude this is so awesome! If you make it so these debris fields only spawn when fighting in them if thats not already the case it would be nuts!

I had a quick glance at the code, am I right that for adding ships from my own mod to the background I just have to add them to the list "CombatBackgroundTerrain"
in settings.ini?
Edit: no wait, that's just for the debris. you are already picking fleets dinamically, never mind
