Does the command prompt box just normally remain in the background while Starsector is running this?

yes, if you dont want to see that you can use this Script instead, it'll launch the game without command prompt box.

Oh it doesn't bother me either way, I just wanted to make sure it was functioning properly.  Thanks though!

This sounds like a fantastic, long term project, thank you for all the work !

I am very interested in trying this mod, I am running starsector on an embarrassingly slow and old laptop (amazed that it runs at all and with no issues nonetheless, just low FPS) and would be very interested to see if it helps with performance.

Just two quick questions because between two kids, a painfully slow laptop and a full time job I don't have much time to try things, will I be able to still use the "vanilla" installation if I run the game through the normal launcher and how exactly do I check for this,

  • Error 0xc0000000005
Check if the game accidentally use your iGPU, if you only have iGPU reduce the size you pick (you ran out of ram)
If you already changed the game into using your Dedicated GPU and its still crashing like this, check if your PC Memory is Stable

meaning how do I know if the game is using the internal graphics rather than the GFX card ?

Unable to initialize main class com.fs.starfarer.StarfarerLauncher
Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/json/JSONException

What did I do wrong?

Edit: Nvm I'm stupid and dumb. Ignore

on newer Windows 10 or newer, the task manager show which GPU is used... its harder to tell on older windows other than just making sure you configure it correctly

Out of curiosity, does this upgrade reduce GPU load?  I only ask because usually when playing Starsector my GPU temp is at least 10 degrees above what it is now that I've upgraded to this.  I don't have integrated graphics, just a single discreet GPU.

No, it doesnt reduce it, depending on game load since technically its running as fast as possible right now.. (CPU is pushed the hardest btw)
You can either turn the vsync back on and set some reasonable fps cap or use MSI Afterburner's Rivatuner (RTSS) to limit the framerates (better choice)

Ok thanks!  So far I don't think that's necessary since my GPU is staying quite a bit cooler after I started using this.  I'm just a bit clueless as to why but it's certainly nice.

An issue with starting the game from a .bat instead of an .exe:

I have multiple monitors and prefer to run the game on one of them. Usually, I just add Starsector to steam library and use Steam's big picture mode (to also achieve borderless fullscreen so the game doesn't minimize when I click another screen), with the alternative start-up option being a shortcut with custom commands, achieving the same result.

With a .bat though, I can't add the game to Steam's custom library, nor can I create a shortcut to the .exe to start the game with custom commands. The game would only run on my default monitor and will minimize whenever the default monitor of out of focus (anything pops up or is clicked on another monitor)

Other than that, game runs perfectly, thanks for your hard work.

Hey for anyone having funny crashes on Linux be wary to make sure the Rouge folder you have in the mods folder is the Linux one and not the Windows one.

There is currently an issue plaguing my game where after a certain point. FPS in combat slows down dramatically. The game just slows down to an absolute crawl. And even when I quit to the title screen. The slowness persist.

Strangely enough. If i can bear through the slow combat and finished it. I return to find the campaign map FPS speed is still perfectly smooth. It's only the combat and main menu FPS that gets tanked.

Restarting will fix this issue temporarily. But it only takes a few combat encounters for the same thing to happen again.

What's going on? I've pretty much tried all the solutions in the FAQ. But they all didn't seem to work.

I don't know what part of the logs I should post since this doesn't involve a crash. Should I post the log in its entirety?

I only had these slow downs with Java 7 and to a lesser degree in 8 (with the custom garbo collector), I don't seem to have them with 23 (or they are less noticeable or take longer to clog the RAM or the garbo collector is working, what do I know, I am not a programmer).

Anyway, it runs like a charm, Himemiko and everyone involved are heroes.
