brawler AI behaviour
« on: May 21, 2012, 11:59:46 PM »

essentially, if i put all 4 of its weapons into their own group, the ship just uses 1 out of 4, even if it is capable of hitting me with all 4. it doesn't put any of it's other guns on auto fire either.

Hmm. I don't think that's a bug, really - or, if it is, not one that I feel needs fixing :) I'm sure there are other ship fits and weapon group combinations you can come up with to confuse the AI, but unless they're actually *useful fits*, I don't think it's an issue.

Note that if you had, say, put a Heavy Mauler and a Heavy Needler in the two slots, in 2 different groups, it would/should know which one to pick for the given situation. But putting multiple (and from what I gather, similar-role) guns into different weapon groups doesn't seem to have a real purpose.

but unless they're actually *useful fits*,

most of them are:

2x HMG / Heavy Needlers
2x Atropos / reapers

2x Thumpers
2x Needlers

2x hyper velocity drivers
2x railguns

2x heavy maulers / assault chainguns
2x light dual machine guns

2x heavy AC
2x light dual AC

the purpose of doing this(splitting up all weapons) is so that ammo is conserved, since all 4 are hardpoints they will never be out of arc and thus fire even if only 1/4 guns can hit.

You could put the same weapons in the same group and set them on ALTERNATING.

Interesting - at least, in theory. Sounds rather too fiddly in practice, though - especially for the AI, which has a bit of leeway for when to fire, so this wouldn't work for it anyway. And you can already do this on your own ship if you want.

Yep. I understand what you're trying to get the AI to do, but it just isn't going to work well, even if I tried to get it to do that.

but it's not a general AI problem, it's just an issue with the brawler :/ every other ship doesn't have that much of an issue with utilizing guns split up in such a fashion.
