Oddly specific market share question
« on: February 14, 2024, 02:23:22 PM »

Hello all! I'll try to keep this brief. I like to run starsector games with a lot of faction mods, but I've been noticing that sometimes I end up running so many faction mods that I run into a problem. This being: Having so many markets, with such high production and accessibility, that many smaller colonies simply make no money from the exporting of goods. What I think is happening here is that the amount of money a colony makes off of exports of any given good is based off of the size of the market, and the market share out of 100%. I believe that it's not possible for you to have a market share that isn't a whole number- i.e., you can have a colony with 0% of the market share, or 1%, but no number in between those two values. Is there some way to... I don't know, add a decimal point here, so that smaller/cripplingly low accessibility colonies still make some money, even if it's not much? Or am I asking for something that can't be done? Sorry if this came off weird, I'm not used to the forums.

I've never seen it in vanilla, but yes, I've seen colonies with 0% market share when running enough mods, and a player colony having 0% market share means the colony earns no money from exports. Like I said, it's largely only a problem for colonies with very poor accessibility or brand new colonies, but it has lead to a couple instances of my newly founded colonies producing multiple resources with a spaceport and making no money. Accessibility increases and increases in actual production through AI cores, story point upgrades, and items can all be used to offset this, but I'd like it if the colonies could make a small amount of money even if they're small or hard to reach, because a few people would still be crazy or determined enough to undertake trade.

yep, just tested it on the modded version I remembered. Founded a new colony, with 88% access. Adequate farmland, the tooltip says I'm "profitably exporting" four units of food, with 0% of the market share, bringing in zero credits a month.
