Question regarding recovering of ships
« on: January 04, 2024, 12:38:16 PM »

0.95.1a added "Ships with officers or AI cores in command, or with any s-mods, are (almost) always recoverable".

Does this include a ship were the player is set as officer and commands it in battle? Or only those with "other officers"?

The player counts as an officer for everything else, so I think so, but I don't know if you still count if you switch ships after having one blown out from under you.

I usually s-mod the ships I personally pilot, though, so I don't actually have any experience with the subject.

Now I can't help but wonder how exactly it works. I mean if you go into battle with your flagship and get it destroyed its certainly always recoverable. But what if you continuously jump to officer-less ships and they are getting popped, do you still get to recover all of them? If you are in the middlfe of a transfer to another ship, and both get destroyed, can you lose both ships at once? So many questions!

I can't wait to get curb-stomped.

(Honestly, I'm really looking forward to this.)

Easy enough to science.

I spawned in 10 Mercury shuttles to my fleet, got into a battle, and threw them at the enemy 1 by 1.
Mercury 1-5 I piloted at the start or transferred into before they blew up.
Mercury 6-10 I left be unpiloted.
Then I nuked the enemy to win the battle.

Every Mercury I piloted was normally recoverable.
Every Mercury I didn't pilot was recoverable with a story point.

I repeated the test, but this time I hopped to every Mercury during the fight but left them all each before they were destroyed.  So butt was in seat at some point, but not when ship go boom (except for ship #10, nowhere else to go).  3 ships were normally recoverable,   7 recoverable with story points.

1 final test, all 10 mercury sent in, none ever piloted.   3 normally recoverable, 7 recoverable with story points.

Conclusion:
Butt in seat when ship go boom, "officer" was present and you can recover normally.
Butt not in seat when ship go boom, it's like you were never there.

Cool, thank you very much for this test, I didn't think about that.
