Re: enemy Radiant
Did it have Systems Expertise?  If it did, it can run away trivially.  Systems Expertise is the one skill that is critical for making Neural Link Radiant flagship overpowered because the skimmer recharges quickly enough to enable teleport nearly at-will.  I would imagine a similar Radiant controlled by the enemy dead set on running away to just skim away at will.

The grendel looking like 2 gremlins taped together is a given but i can also see traces of explorarium drone ship design on it and i think that is pretty neat as it fits with the lore it has.
Just wanted to say that because forgot to say it before.

Btw just want to say how the game feels MUCH more alive with all these new interactions (I still have a ton more to see). David really did an outstanding job.

Not sure which ones you mean - there's a bunch - but, happy to hear it! :)

Curious how you find the Grendel, yeah.

Thanks for checking, yes I did see there were a few other posts (unrelated to this game) which suggested it was a false positive but as I had downloaded Starsector so many times and never seen it before I thought I would flag it. Just in case something nefarious had occurred.

Yeah, it's good to double-check. A few months back I moved download hosting from Amazon's S3 service to Backblaze, so that would explain it.

AI cores don't get Systems Expertise for mainly this reason.

*thumbs up* (Personally a fan of where David went with the visual design and the description!)

I can't demote officer , is it a bug or a mechanic change, I haven't seen any information in the change log if this is the case ( sorry if I missed it).

The only "demote officer" option I'm aware of is from the Officer Extension mod, not something in the base game.

Wyvern is 100% correct about the math.

  • Combat Endurance: elite effect will now repair the hull up to 100% (was: up to 50%)
Did this not make into the release? Still looks like up to 50% to me. I could definitely see 100% being too strong, though.

Man desire sensor is real
I begin a new game for this version and the ship market has a shiny grendel but obviously i can't buy it at that time. Now that i have the credits i can't find grendels or gremlins for my run (Finding the spicier LP gremlins on shop is always hard because their small markets so i was already ready for that)
Hopefully i can fill my fleet with (mostly) grendel and gremlins soon.
Might as well ask if it is worth it to get Phase Coil Tuning with the fleet being so heavy on phase as it seems that the bonuses might dilute a lot.

What's changed is the threshold - it repairs when any hull damage is taken now, instead of only repairing once hull is below 50%. The total amount repaired is still capped to 2k/50% of hull.

(Oof! Hegemony black markets probably the best bet, but yeah, no guarantees there.)

More trip reports:

I finally got a colony going and I've had a "perfect drink" and "VIP treatment" interactions when going to the bar. "Um, I own the house." was a great dialog option. I don't expect to be a hero but these are wholesome little nods that the player is doing something. I don't know if there are more to these than just acknowledgements or if, let's say stability was really low, you get shouted down or something. There's also been a few occasions (on other planets) where someone shouts at me and the place riots.

Escort Package: So, I've S-modded a nice contingent of 6 Destroyers to complement my Eradicator and Falcon. I've been making the Destroyers defend the two Cruisers while the Carriers and Frigates run harassment. When the Destroyers are tied to my ship, they keep within distance but their target priority is rarely mine. I guess I can't expect them to focus fire on my target but I had a Sunder get in between me and a Venture Mk. II as it tried to shoot a Hound. It wound up eating an engine full of missiles when it turned its rear toward the Venture! I don't think it would have done that if I hadn't put any orders on it. Since then, I haven't been making the Destroyers escort anything and if they get the bonus for being near the Cruisers, good, but it's not a great loss if they don't. Overall, I haven't found Escort Package to be a massive advantage despite gearing my fleet towards it. Maybe once I get a Capital I'll see more.

I also encountered a new Galatia mission where I bargained with a Beta Core over some scientists. The core said some interesting things and the Omega/Luddic connection is going deeper. This, too, was a nice change of pace.

Two things stood out that were odd: the Denkanmyru (or however its spelled) Mining Station was still a Pirate base when I encountered it for the first time. I skipped the tutorial but I can't recall a time when this happened on previous playthroughs. A few months later it was Independent. Maybe I just don't visit the system early enough in my other runs. Second, I was chased by a full Ordo when I was level 2 while hunting a 40k bounty. The whole fleet was heavily D-modded but it had an Alpha Core Radiant and Brilliant along with 10 or so smaller ships. I can only assume it was a sensor ghost that turned into an Ordo but I don't remember any chasing me into and around a system. I don't recall salvaging anything that causes a fleet to come. Suffice to say, I E-burned out of there.

It's "Derinkuyu", ha - it changes factions a few months after game start.

The beta core GA mission is actually fairly old, but it's cool that you hadn't seen it before!

WARNING THIS MESSAGE HAS BEEN TAGGED IN VIOLATION OF HEGCOMSEC ORDNANCE 3-BRAVO-42

Spoiler
Hyperspace good. Happy place.

Ship go faster.

Happy.

happiness is not tolerated under HEGCOMSEC ORDNANCE 3-BRAVO-42

What have you done, you gave us all unlimited power.

But seriously, I'm not even in a moderate hurry to complete Galatia anymore. I'm just having too much fun slipping to and fro. It's become something of a welcome, meditative change of pace between goings-on, in my experience. Ironically, I've 'slowed down', so to speak, to just 'go with the flow'.  ;D

Haha, I don't even know *exactly* what you mean, but it sounds good and I'm on board with it :)

Re: Helmsmanship,

This may be because I didn't take the previous skill very often, but in a new save I took it (elite) on a Unstable Injector Hammerhead (tutorial craft) and it feels speedy. I really like it.
