After playing with this portrait pack for a little while, I think it gives a better vibe to the game for my taste.
Would love to see this content being expanded in the future.

I used stabilityai's stable-diffusion-xl-base-1.0 model with bunch of prompts and fine tuning in order to create these. Nothing else.

"Fine-tuning" has a colloquial definition and an AI definition. Do you mean you tweaked the prompts until they looked good, or do you mean that you fine-tuned the model itself on a handpicked dataset?

Also, these look like they were adapted from the base portraits, like the way an img2img model would do so. Did you just use prompts, or did you provide the original portraits for it to adjust?

In any case, these results look very clean, well done.

Thanks a lot! I'm working on new ones to expand vanilla factions portraits.

I used "AUTOMATIC1111" UI and i meant i tuned lots of parameters there.

Yes, i used image to image tab on AUTOMATIC1111. First i put a vanilla portrait there and generated bunch of portraits then i chose a portrait that i liked and that i can continue working on. Secondly, i put that generated portrait to image to image tab again and start playing with prompts and parameters to finalize it inside AUTOMATIC1111. Only external touch i did was removing backgrounds with Photoshop to make them solid black. I did not use any lora or custom models those create Starsector portraits specifically.

Glad you liked them, thanks a lot!

Yes, i used image to image tab on AUTOMATIC1111.

Oh man, don't use A1111 web UI, it's a bloated mess. Go with ComfyUI, it's lightweight and way more efficient.
You can find many examples online to optimize your process, you will be able to generate images much faster and potentially in a more precise way.

I hope you add more! These are really nice and my preferred one out of all the portrait packs out there.

This should totally work with .97 yeah?
Doesn't seem like the update would prevent this image swap?
Figured I'd ask to make it very obvious for anyone else who might have this question.

Thank you a lot! Version 0.97a introduced some new portraits to the game and i will update this mod when i'm done with them(probably in a week or so).

If you change game version to "0.97a" in "mod_info.json", it should be fine.

I was looking for an expanded vanilla friendly Portrait Pack because so many in vanilla are ugly and this is perfect! This animated style really works with sectors ship styles imo. Top tier

Thank you so much, I can finally stop using anime-girl portraits (I still will, I like them, but at least not all of them will be anime girls) but these are fantastic.

I hope this portrait pack gets an update soon, it's one of the better done portrait packs and really enhances immersion.

I'm even more surprised it hasn't gotten more attention, especially considering the attention to detail and the way it seems to tie together the portrait styles.

I am also surprised why this one portrait pack is not that popular or not many commenting in here. This is by far the best what we have now (of course in my opinion) because a lot of factions have silly looking or too realistic portraits. The anime is okay in some other places but I prefer in specific games and not in this one. Sadly some faction mods contains anime characters which makes me not want to use it simply because I would like to see this style or the original or a close variant for everyone. I hope soon more portraits will be added I still need to experiment for my own faces but I have not the full version of this ai tool to make similar portraits. The only option for me to do some after work on paint.net or in gimp and make slight changes to alter characters.

I wish some other mod makers could use this tool for similar portraits in their faction mods then the game can have a lot of unique characters.
