Um, why would you ever have to fly into a pulsar beam?
« on: November 12, 2023, 12:50:53 AM »

Why wouldn't you just fly around it? Seems a bit contrived. Thank you.

You don't. It's an obstacle.

if u do a long sensor scan inside it, you get some points for the hyperspace level

U can also cheese the game by shoving enemies into a pulsar and then fighting them with solar shielding on.

The same reason why you would step on a landmine. You don't know it's there until its too late. That is, you jump into a system and, oops the beam just happens to be on top of the point you used to jump in. Also, maybe it's possible for a planet or salvage-able is locked inside the beam? I have heard of a mod doing that but haven't seen it in vanilla yet. If your patient enough, they eventually desync enough to safely approach.
I don't see why this thread is in suggestions, though

The reason it's in the suggestion?

Based on what he said, he want to remove the penalty by saying that we fly "around the beam" instead of "in the beam", which would be making the beam only cosmetic.

it's a classic "i am bad at it, so remove it" type of suggestion.
That is not how game should be, game have to offer challenge, which then bring satisfaction when cleared.

For the pulsar system, the challenge is how to get what you want, or where you want to be, without wasting too much time and supplies.
Since there are already many ways to solve that challenge, i dont see a reason to change that game feature.

Pulsar Beam push can be ridiculously annoying though. I also kinda scaled it down. I feel like combat readiness loss is strong enough and I do not really understand why would it throw you away, especially considering that NPCs can't handle it. Same goes for Black Holes.

Though, to be honest. If NPC fleets were reprogrammed to know how to deal with Black Hole and Pulsar Beams, I wouldn't nerf them. Because then the game's immersion isn't ruined by seeing my defense armadas get stuck in the planet's sun.
