Debris could stand to be more easily breakable
« on: September 28, 2023, 10:52:44 AM »

Sometimes to me it feels like hunks of dead ship are able to soak up as much damage as the ships that they came from. Debris also tends to get in the way and stay in the way for quite a while. Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely love using space trash as a shield to vent flux. But when you want to get rid of it it takes a lot of punishment and then just breaks into smaller pieces that are still in the way and also tough to get rid of. Sometimes the same dead ship will get ping ponged back and forth for quite a while. This is partly because autofire won't bother to try and get rid of the debris even if its a small piece. This goes both ways of course, although the AI won't try to 'use' the pieces in their favor.

Might be good if wrecks break into smaller chunk faster, and these chunks get quite a bit momentum away from the sprite center. So if you hit a wreck a few times its parts go flying of in all directions and make way for your shots. If only to show off the ship breaking system more^^

The game was completed 8 years ago and we get a free expansion every year.

Arranging holidays in an embrace with the Starsector is priceless.

I had an new an interesting experience with debris earlier today. An enemy Venture was closing and I think it activated some kind of burn boost (I'm not familiar with Ventures) just as it died and just went flying across the battlefield. It went through my lines...luckily all my ships dodged the rather fast moving hunk. I need to find software to start recording games, or at least battles, to see this stuff. It was more funny than anything else, but I imagine if any of my smaller ships had been in the way, it would have done some significant damage.

That was a Luddic Path venture, they have the Orion nuclear drive so they can launch themselves at the enemy.

But back to the topic at hand, I certain do support being able to blow through debris faster or at least more easily apply an impulse to it to clear firing lanes. As it is right now it is annoying to deal with the Ludds sometimes because they just use their corpses as cover to get close.
