Alt Tab is broken on linux
« on: August 21, 2023, 12:51:54 PM »

When Alt tabbing on Linux the in game cursor overrides the normal cursor making me unable to interact with anything.
Tabbing around works fine its just the cursor that's the problem.

Fedora 38, 6.4.9-200.fc38.x86_64.
running the game on 1920 x 1080 full-screen.
40~ mods installed but the issue was prevalent in vanilla too.

Hi - sorry about the trouble! I suspect this is something system-specific, but if you edit data/config/settings.json, find "useSoftwareMouseCursor", and set that to "true", it may resolve the issue.

This is also true on Linux Mint.

It doesn't work in my case, it just makes the cursor vanish while alt-tabbing out of the game.

Hi Alex,

I have enabled software mouse cursor however the issue still persists.
Might be completely unrelated but I will try switching from Xorg to Wayland to see if that's any better.

Update!

Switching from Xorg to Wayland did not change anything.

I can use basic apps like terminal, files, and settings fine but no other app recognises mouse clicks.
Running the game in windowed mode with resolution set to my monitor fixes the issue however I worry about the performance loss caused by this.

Ah, glad that's a workaround!

... however I worry about the performance loss caused by this.

There shouldn't be much/any though I suppose that's down to how the graphics drivers handle it.

Hi, I actually have the same issue after updating to 0.96a, did not have this problem with 0.95.
Enabling useSoftwareMouseCursor actually makes it worse because then, in addition to not being able to click anywhere after alt-tabbing, the mouse cursor on the operating system is also gone ;)

I am running in Linux Mint (Ubuntu 22.04 base) with 3440x1440 resolution. Issue also present regardless of mods or vanilla.

I'm sorry about the trouble! Hmm. The game hasn't really changed anything about how the cursor is handled between the two versions - there is the new software cursor option, of course, but the regular one works the same way it did before. Is it possible that you'd still have the issue in 0.95a if you tried it again? You could get the older version here. My suspicion would be that it's a change on your system rather than a change in the game. Regardless, though, I don't think there's anything I can do about this on my end - my apologies!

Have you tried this solution, btw?
