Are [REDACTED] weapons useless ?
« on: August 02, 2023, 12:13:21 PM »

I'm not talking about the [SUPER REDACTED].

After doing several playthroughs, I have noticed that [REDACTED] weapons are ... useless ? Not only I never found any build on the internet which uses them, but I also never found myself wanting to use them. Even the AI don't seem to use them a lot ...

I remember the first time I looted a Remnant version of a weapon and I was quite excited ... only to be dissappointed very quickly. What is the point of these weapons ? Do you use some of them ?

Is this modded? I'm not sure what are Remnant weapons, since the only vanilla [REDACTED] stuff doesn't come from blue fast ships but white triangle beyblades.

Sounds like you're playing with mods. The only Remnant weapons in vanilla are fighters. Sparks and Flashes are commonly used when cheap PD or PD plus a back off weapon is needed.

Haha! This is hilarious. There really are people who toss so many mods into their game that they lose track of what is and isn't vanilla.

Maybe do a single vanilla playthrough of a game before you mod it to hell and back. Who knows, you might even get more satisfaction from mods if you know what they are changing and adding over vanilla.

What really ?

Oh my god. I feel so stupid. After reading your answers, I felt so confused that I dived right into the game files (I only use 3 mods so it was quick) ... only to discover that it was HMI that introduced a very small limited number "AI-influenced weapons" (example : a pulse laser or a HAC, they just have a colour swap).

I don't know, between the colour swap and the description that reminded a lot vanilla descriptions, I was 99% sure that it came right from vanilla.

I feel so stupid. Disregard anything I said.

Don't worry, happens to the best of us. For the longest time I couldn't remember if saturation bombardment was a vanilla or nex thing. It's vanilla, also the Persean League hates me for what I did to Tyle. And people in the bar and rando independents won't stop whining about it.

I know what you're talking about and there are a few HMI Redacted weapons that are worth using.  The upgraded Heavy Blaster has a huge shot speed (and therefore effective range) increase over the vanilla Heavy Blaster.  The Redacted Tachyon Lance can be useful if you really like shield penetration.  Some of the light energy PD Redacted weapons ignore flares and are worth using if you can afford them.  I don't think King Alfonzo has updated most of the Redacted weapons to keep up with the changes to the latest version of vanilla yet.  The Redacted Dual Light Autocannon, for example, is clearly not remotely competitive with vanilla's version.

overpowered Redacted weapon data
The true power of HMI Redacted weapons is the small weapon mount version of Burst PD.  Burst Assault Laser I believe it is called, this is a Burst PD laser that ignores the capacitor mechanic but still benefits from the firing speed increase from S-Modded Armored Weapon Mounts.  It's not a PD weapon, it's a heavy weapon like the Heavy Blaster on a light mount that benefits from beam upgrades.  You can put together a truly ruthless Ionos build around Remnant weapons where the Burst Assault Lasers do most of the damage, if you have access to the Ionos.  I believe it's in the HMI Supervillains pack these days.

I assume King Alfonzo will balance these in a patch eventually but I'm enjoying them while they last.
