Picking first system to colonize
« on: June 12, 2024, 03:48:31 AM »

So I need help deciding between 2 systems:

One system has 5 planets and is 21 light years from askonia in the top left of map, it has domain comms and domain nav buey, in-system gate, and in-range hypershunt.
barren w/ +2 ore, no atmosphere, and extreme heat
arid w/ +1 farm, +0 ore and organics
jungle w/ -1 farm and ore, +0 organics and low grav
gas giant w/ +1 volatiles
volcanic w/ -1 rare ore, +1 normal ore, hot, low grav, and thin atmosphere

The other system has 6 planets and is 14 light years from askonia and directly left of it, 3 stable locations, outside gate is 5.6 light years away, but has cryo-sleeper in system.
terran w/ +2 farm, +1 organic, and -1 ore
gas giant w/ +0 volatiles
cryovolcanic w/ +0 rare ore, +1  normal ore, -1 volatiles, extreme cold, and low grav
barren w/ +0 ore, no atmosphere, and low grav
terran w/ +2 farm and volatiles and low grav
frozen w/ +3 ore, +2 volatiles, toxic atmosphere, and extreme cold

Would appreciate anyone's feedback on this. Cheers!

Here's the seed if it helps: AN-1306504646083367932
First system is in "The Motley" constellation top left and the second system is in "Qarik Nebula" directly left of Isirah

I would do the second system since it has more top-end potential. Closer, more planets, and you can eventually build a gate there.

It will also be more profitable right away--you can plop a size 3 colony on the frozen or terran worlds and already be cash-flowing. When you are ready to defend it, you can fire up the cryosleeper and speedrun all the colony crises in 2 weeks.

After you build up the first system, if you need more money (you won't), you could still colonize the second.

Yeah I'm definitely feeling the second system.  A terran world grows fast and cheap and there's TWO of them?  Hell yes please.  That blank barren world is a great world to drop colony items on, especially a nanoforge, because the pollution will be negated anyway.  The gate being a few light years away is actually not so bad; I can't recall if other fleets (read: enemies) can eventually use it but that means they can't just jump right into your backyard.  Drop mining and refining on that frozen world and your income is probably in the green, despite the toxic atmo.
