Exotica Technologies - updated by Lukas04
1.8.7

What is Exotica?
Original Thread: https://fractalsoftworks.com/forum/index.php?topic=24660.0
Inspired by Extra Systems Reloaded, Exotica Technologies offers an RPG element to Starsector that makes your ships AND enemies harder, better, faster, stronger through upgrades and exotics! These upgrades do not take OP or hullmod slots! Each ship has a limit to the number of upgrades they can install so choose wisely! The cost of each upgrade will require common materials salvaged across the sector such as metal and transplutonics. However, as upgrades get more complex and specialized, they tend to consume more resources and even demand special items found through research stations and mining stations!

What is this?
Lukas04 made an update to Exotica for 0.98a and posted it to the USC Discord.
I, Wisp, asked Lukas04 if I could post this update on the forum.

Lukas04: "I do not plan to maintain Exotica, as i dont really use it myself. But if you come across any issues, please notify me about them."

Changelog
Version 1.8.7
- Updated to 0.98a
- Compiled for Java 17 and Kotlin 2.0
- Fixed a dialog crash with Indevo
- Fixes a save corrupting issue (present in Kaysaar's Toolbox Edition)
Quote
If your error message looks something like
Cannot invoke "com.fs.starfarer.campaign.fleet.FleetData.getCommander()" because "this.fleetData" is null
Then there is a good chance that swapping to this fork will fix it. Should work for existing saves.

What is the difference from the Kaysaar version?
The Kaysaar version was the last pre-2.0 version of Exotica, updated to 0.97a.
This version is also the last pre-2.0 version of Exotica, with a few bug fixes, a change from using Combat Activators to MagicSubsystems, and recompiled for 0.98a.

What about "the drama"?
Only existed in the 2.0 version of Exotica, not in any of the 1.x versions such as this. Rehashing drama is discouraged.

Don't really like this mod.

It's billed as empowering your own ships, but it's applied to every ship in the game.  So it evens out so long as you use the exotica according to how exotica dictates the new state of play.

Want to try something unique?  Screw you.   You get to fight ships with below .3 shield efficiency and more hull and armor.  Have fun.

Every other of the drama queen's mods were this way, too.  I don't know why people keep using these largely contentless mods.

Thank you for your review. I urge you to read mod descriptions carefully before installing them, however.

The even-ish playing field is part of the mod, and that challenge definitely isn't for everybody.

The even-ish playing field is part of the mod, and that challenge definitely isn't for everybody.

This "challenge," is realizing this mod adds no real alternatives and penalizes you for not copy-pasting the exotica of your opposing ships, with a massive credit sink besides.

Starsector has enough grinding as it is.  No thanks.
