I mean, I'd be happy if even just one of the two motherships had a pristine nanoforge. Give the other one a synchrotron core maybe?
I would like that.  High Command is such a pig.  Needs +3 items (both pristine nanoforge and synchrotron) and IP admin to get enough production to feed worlds with HC just as big (8 production on size 6 producer to feed size 6 world with HC).  (Yes, there are AI cores, but I do not want the aggravation that comes with their use.)

Corrupted nanoforge (instead of pristine) is not good enough once High Command is online.

Colony items aside from pristine nanoforge and synchrotron are luxuries.

I think there should only be a chance for 1 Pristine Nanoforge loot drop in the whole Sector and otherwise raiding one of the heavy industry worlds should be blindingly hard. Same for Synchrotron Core. Corrupted Nanoforge OTOH should be a guaranteed drop.
The size 7+ faction homeworlds with battlestations are already not that easy to raid (at least if stealth raiding to avoid hostilities, since bombing is not an option).  Without Gunnery Drills, I need somewhere between 2000 and 3000 marines and enough ground raider ships to boost marine power more to swipe the items after knocking out the battlestation, and it is a bloodbath.  It is a grind to get everything I need to steal from big, high defense worlds, which happens close to if not at endgame.

Corrupted nanoforges are easy to get.  Raid one of the small low defense worlds (like New Maxios or Asher) for it, if salvage does not drop one already.  (Even Kanta does not accept corrupted nanoforge as tribute.)

As an alternative to guaranteed items, military base and high command (which we need to control hostile activities) do not need to have such high demand and/or Industrial Planning buffed more, like giving back -1 to demand (or boost production from +1 to +2).

Was I extremely lucky? Are you all playing in small sectors, does that make that much of a difference?

Slightly lucky, but overall your list matches my saves.

You raise a good point though, I wonder how many people who complain play on small sectors and/or don't explore all systems.

I explored 100% of my sector (Yes, even systems with neutron stars) and haven't found any pristine nanoforges.  The only way to get one is to sack the Hegemony or League (I guess, if you play vanilla, your rep with the heg/league is forever screwed).

Player can stealth raid Hegemony and League for the forge, but it will take a lot of attack power to do it.  Should kill the battlestation, and no bombing.

Historian is also a possibility.

I made a thread about rare item drops explaining the drop tables and chances per salvage item. The chance of a station dropping a pristine nanoforge is 0.9%, further diminished by competing rolls, because if several colony items roll positive only 1 drops anyways.
If you have around 30 stations in your map, then that's less than a 30% chance of the pristine nanoforge to drop.

The historian can always be the back up plan, but I feel like it's a very unappealing option, just some dude rocking up and going like "oi bruv, wanna cheeky sparkly new nanoforge?".
Everyone and their dog would be searching for one, if there was any register of such an item being out there, someone would've found it already.
Getting it through the domain motherships makes more sense, since who in their right mind would voluntarily battle explorarium drones for what might just end up being survey data, only the player character, who for all we know, is a whack job on the level of brother Cotton. Assuming anyone even finds those motherships, they are always in the corners of the sector after all.

And if they are only at the motherships and you don't get one, then you know you will have to raid if you really want one. No trekking across every square inch of the sector looking for a station to randomly drop one.
